Japanese logistics provider The NX Group (Nippon Express Group) is considering expansions in India and looking at States like Uttar Pradesh, where Japanese parks are also coming up.

“We learn this current movement of government-to-government relationship and this is a very good sign. How we can explore our network, our footprint, according to this movement... we have just started our study. But, definitely this is a good sign, and Uttar Pradesh itself is a huge market. So, I take it very positively and I want to consider,” Katsuhito Kobayashi, Executive Officer, South Asia & Oceania Region, Nippon Express, told businessline. The company works closely with semiconductor firms.

After Japan, the US, Europe and other parts of Asia, Nippon Express Group is now trying make a “big team in India”, said Kobayashi, especially after the India Semiconductor Mission 2.0 (ISM 2.0), which looks “promising”.

“We are happy to be part of the ecosystem from a logistics point of view... we are very much eager to bring our logistics know-how to India,” he said, adding that the company has been in the country for over 20 years with customers like Tata Electronics. He also said the firm would like to set up its logistics facilities, like warehouses, in strategic places which are nearer to semiconductor factories in Gujarat, Assam, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh.

Talking about policies here, Kobayashi said while the Indian government was taking care of all the hurdles faced in semiconductor logistics with projects like Gati Shakti freight corridor, there were still some concerns.

“I think port-airport areas should also be upgraded to handhold this kind of large and sensitive equipment. Semiconductor shipments are always urgent, so hopefully the Customs formality or any other [concession] may help us have better supply chain and procurement for Semicon 2.0,” he added.

The NX Group and the ISM also signed a memorandum of understanding at the recently concluded Semicon India 2026, establishing a framework for collaboration to support the development of India’s semiconductor ecosystem through specialised logistics expertise and supply-chain solutions.

Through this collaboration, the NX Group and ISM will explore opportunities to address logistics challenges and contribute to the development of a robust and sustainable semiconductor ecosystem in India.

NXP had a turnover of $153 million in India, in 2024, and aims to achieve around $380 million by 2028.
