I try not to generalize, but what is it about most men and home bathrooms? I swear my husband is in the bathroom for a whole hour in the morning, and I’m not alone in this predicament (in fact, if you clicked on this article I’m assuming you GET IT). TikTok is awash in men/bathroom video content, with one creator even calling it “The Bathroom Theory.”
The creator (Shania Khan) hypothesizes that women innately feel rushed or apologetic when using the bathroom, while men take their time because they feel like they deserve that time for themselves. That’s the “Bathroom Theory.” Other videos look like this, and they’re not wrong.
Anyway, I’m not here to necessarily solve the great Man and Toilet conundrum, but I do have a pretty good alternative solution: Get a really nice-smelling toilet freshener and force your guy to use it. Because at the very least, he can leave the place smelling like a rich person bathroom.
Size: 3.4 fl oz.
Smells like: Citrus and floral
Ingredients: Tangerine peel, ylang ylang, manderin peel
Leave it Aesop to create a status-y “Post-Poo” drops that smells fresh and calming. If you’re already a fan of their hand wash and lotions, then you know the ingredients (and packaging) are top-tier. Also I’m cackling at the description on the bottle: “When vigorous activity has occurred in the bathroom, add several drops of this botanical blend to the toilet water post-flush, to mask any ambient odours. Refrain from further flushing, and exit with your head held high.” Like, someone give that copywriter a RAISE.
Not only have a made my husband use this, but I’ve also tested it out, and I can confirm just three small shakes of the bottle, and the fragrance is potent enough to eclipse any yucky smells. I even now use this after changing my toddler’s diaper pail, and I no longer almost pass out when throwing a diaper out. (Parents to kids in diapers know I’m not being hyperbolic.)

I know it’s a bit early to start thinking about it, but how good of a stocking stuffer is this? Or housewarming gift? Aside from making me hate my husband less for stinking up the bathroom, this is just a nice thing to keep on the counter when guests are over, too. I always try to make people feel like they can truly let ~loose~ in my home, and that means not feeling awkward if they need to poop at some point! This masks the smell, and nobody has to know what happened.
