According to Football Insider, Man United consider Mitchell as the ideal reinforcement at left-back, where Luke Shaw is currently the only natural senior option after Tyrell Malacia departed during the summer.

However, hopes of bringing in Mitchell have been hit as the aforementioned report states Palace are not thought to be interested in selling the 27-year-old.

Manchester United are stepping up their scouting of Palmeiras’ academy as they look to identify promising Brazilian talent at an early stage.

According to Sport Witness, officials from United have been regularly attending Palmeiras matches over the past month, with particular focus on the U15 side.

Their scouting has also extended to younger age groups, with both clubs monitoring players as young as U12.

Palmeiras have produced several high-profile talents, including Gabriel Jesus, Endrick, Vitor Reis and Estevao.

With international transfer rules preventing the youngest players from moving to England immediately, United appear focused on getting ahead of the competition for future stars.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Gabriel and his representatives have made it clear to Man United that they have ‘no intention’ of signing a new contract to keep him at the club after he turns 16 next month.

As a result, the Man Utd hierarchy are said to have accepted the youngster’s stance in the knowledge that a U-turn is now off the table.

Furthermore, the report states that Gabriel has reached an ‘major agreement’ for his next move in that a move to Spain would be best for his development amid links to Barcelona and Real Madrid.
