Jackson Holmes opened the scoring with a 39-yard run, then delivered a crushing blow with a 100-yard interception return in the second half as Cheverus earned a 37-25 win over Falmouth in a Class B South football game Saturday in Portland.

Kevin True also returned an interception for a touchdown, racing 66 yards to give the Stags (1-1) a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. That came after Holmes’ first TD and the first of two long scoring passes from Colton Jewett to AJ Lauture, who outleaped a defender for a 46-yard touchdown.

Falmouth quarterback Micah Derrig scored on a 14-yard keeper on the final play of the first quarter.

Jewett and Lauture connected again in the second quarter for a 45-yard touchdown. The Navigators (0-2) cut their deficit to 28-13 when Derrig found Blake Kingsley for a 22-yard scoring pass with 3 seconds left in the first half.

Holmes extended the Stags’ lead in the second half, making a 36-yard field goal with lots of room to spare. Then, he picked off a Derrig pass at the goal line and took it the distance to make it 37-13.

SANFORD/KENNEBUNK 3, THORNTON ACADEMY 0: Ella Tederous scored twice, Reese Beaudoin recorded a goal and an assist, and the Spartans (3-1) blanked the Golden Trojans (2-1) in Sanford.

Faith Flynn earned the shutout with eight saves.

SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 6, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 1: Maddie Grimaldi scored four goals to lead the Phoenix (3-0) past the Raiders (1-2) in Jay.

Kallie Allen also scored for Spruce Mountain, while Alaina Kachnovich had a goal and an assist. Phoenix goalies Kyleigh Marcotte and Ella Adams combined for three saves.

Izzy Vander Vuer scored for Fryeburg.

MT. ARARAT 7, YORK 0: Leah Lafrance paced the Eagles (3-0) with three goals in a win over the Wildcats (1-2) at York.

Mt. Ararat also got two goals from Maddy Sweet, and one each from Avery Elliott and Emma Graffam. Jaymie Bergman needed only three saves for the shutout.

BIDDEFORD 6, NOBLE 0: Emily Hussey netted a pair of goals as the Tigers (2-0) defeated the Knights (2-1) in Biddeford.

Mia Mariello and Rachel Lagasse each contributed a goal and assist. Aubrey Forcier and Milania Jackson were the other goal scorers.

Noble’s Lauren Merchant made 21 saves.

CAMDEN HILLS 7, LAWRENCE 1: Alanna Smith scored three goals and set up two, leading the Windjammers (3-0) past the Bulldogs (1-2) in Fairfield.

Emery Lyman, Brooklyn Rollins, Whitney Pearson and Finley Holland-McCabe each added a goal.

Lawrence avoided a shutout when Marley Cote scored with 2:35 remaining.

YARMOUTH 3, CONY 1: Vivienne Corriveau scored twice, Julie Nasveschuk notched a goal and an assist, and the Clippers (4-0) beat the Rams (2-2) in Augusta.

Maya Nasveschuk and Evie Lowell also picked up an assist for Yarmouth. Clippers goalie Stella Murdoch made six saves.

PORTLAND 1, SANFORD 0: Kiley McCrum scored on a penalty kick in the second half to give the Bulldogs (1-2-1) a win over the Spartans (1-1-1) in Portland.

POLAND 4, LEAVITT 2: Alivia Lemieux scored three straight goals in the second half to give the Knights (4-0-1) a win over the Hornets (1-2) in Poland.

Payton Rose gave Poland the lead in the first half with an assist from Phoebe Paradis. Leavitt’s Reese Bilodeau tied it four minutes later, then the Hornets took the lead when Sophia Poulin scored with an assist from Bilodeau in the second half.

Rose, Graceyn Camire and Leksi Langevin each got an assist for Poland.

Knights keeper Payton Blake made four saves, while Jillian York stopped 10 shots for Leavitt.

WESTBROOK 5, DEERING 2: Ava Bolden recorded two goals and an assist to lead the Blue Blazes (1-2) past the Rams (2-1) in Westbrook.

Asyia Williams got the first two goals of her varsity career for Westbrook. Hattie Clark also scored, and Faith Stoddard had an assist. Westbrook keeper Greta Krantz made six saves.

MARANACOOK 6, LAKE REGION 1: Chloe Mills scored two goals to lead the Black Bears (3-0) over the Lakers (1-3) in Readfield.

Caroline Harper, Stella Stewart, Evelyn Stevenson and Cooper Davis each added a goal for Maranacook.

Abigail Nadeau scored for Lake Region.

MOUNTAIN VALLEY 3, WINTHROP 2: Ryder Harding recorded two goals and an assist to lead the Falcons (2-1-1) to a comeback win over the Ramblers (0-2-1) in Rumford.

Jack Glover also scored for Mountain Valley. Logan Crews, Walker Flagg and Ryder Harding each got an assist.

Korbin Littler scored for Winthrop off a long throw-in by Graham Huri. Another Huri throw-in led to an own goal that gave the Ramblers a 2-1 lead.

Gabe Hall made five saves for Mountain Valley. Winthrop’s Gianni Haefele stopped eight shots.

MARANACOOK 8, LAKE REGION 1: Max Caban scored three goals for the Black Bears (3-0) in a win over the Lakers (1-2) in Readfield.

Josh Herzing and Will Watson each scored twice, and Henry Tarbuck added a goal.

FRYEBURG ACADEMY 7, LINCOLN ACADEMY 1: Joao de Melo and Nazar Saifullin each collected two goals, and the Raiders (3-0) rolled past the Eagles (1-2) in Fryeburg.

Hudson Hagan, Felix Schlaich and Joaquim Peres each chipped in with a goal.

George Siegel scored for Lincoln.

DEERING 1, BIDDEFORD 0: A Christopher Richards goal late in the first half was the difference as the Rams (3-0) shut out the Tigers (1-2) in Biddeford.

DEERING 3, MASSABESIC/SACOPEE VALLEY 2: The Rams (3-1) saved five match points in the fourth set as they fought back to beat the Mustangs (3-1) in Portland, winning 25-20, 23-25, 15-25, 26-24, 15-12.

Nora Lauze won six consecutive points on serve as Deering overcame a 24-19 deficit in the fourth set.

The Rams were led by the all-around play of libero Eva Scipione and the net play of outside hitter Blake Gayle.
