New powertrains, fresh styles, and more standard equipment mark the major upgrades on the pickup truck this year

Stepping into the Elevation trim, now starting at $67,199, brings a raft of standard features in the cab including a power sliding rear window, bucket seats with a console, wireless device charging, and ambient lighting. Functional items like a two-speed transfer case, trailer brake controller, and a 12k hitch are also standard gear these days.

From there, expect to find a two-pronged trim approach, with AT4 ($89,399) and AT4X ($109,599) courting the off-road crowd; while the Denali ($96,599) and Denali Ultimate ($115,599) chase customers seeking a cushier luxury experience. All four get Super Cruise as standard equipment, though it’s worth noting the AT4’s tires grow two inches to 34s while the AT4X gets 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler mud-terrains to go with those pricey but capable DSSV adaptable dampers. The two most expensive trims in that quartet also find themselves with an upgraded Bose audio system.

All those prices are exclusive of delivery charges and other fees, all of which seem to add about $3,500 to the pre-tax tally. These largely non-negotiable fees bring the Pro to $57,470 for example, and push both Denali trims into six-figure territory.

We’ve written at length about the new-for-2027 GM powertrains, some of which will be assembled right here in Canada, so we’ll point you to that coverage for a deep dive. Briefly, the 2.7L TurboMax four-cylinder gets a power bump to 350 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque, increases of 40 and 25, respectively. The half-ton 3.0L diesel Duramax remains unchanged in terms of rated output, sticking to 305 hp and 495 tq. The brace of much-discussed new V8 engines, a 5.7L and 6.6L, produce outputs of 402 hp and 428 tq; and 481 hp and 501 tq, respectively.

Something we didn’t note in the engine detail post linked above is the apparent towering weight of the 6.6L mill. GM’s spec sheets show a Crew Cab 4×4 with a short bed (by far the most popular body style these days) as having a base curb weight of 5,310 pounds or 2,409 kilograms when there’s a 5.7L under the hood. However, the same body style with a 6.6L seems to bend the scales at 5,830 pounds, or 2,644 kilos. This suggests that big 400-cubic-inch beast could have roughly 500 extra pounds on its nose, a number helping to explain the gulf of maximum rated towing numbers between these two engines.

Shoppers in Canada buy a lot of Sierra pickup trucks as a percentage of combined Silverado-Sierra volume, certainly more than the States, making it an exceptionally important model for the brand. In fact, GMC says its Canadian market share is the highest of any country in which it hawks its trucks, SUVs, and crossovers.
