Video captures the moment a VW Polo runs into a Bugatti Tourbillon prototype on a mountain road in Spain

None of us ever go out into the world hoping to have an accident. In fact, we actively avoid it. There aren’t many cars you’d rather avoid hitting than a Bugatti, let alone a prototype model. Unfortunately for one Volkswagen Polo driver in Spain, that’s exactly what happened when they ran into the back of a Tourbillon prototype worth several million dollars.

Video of the collision was posted on Instagram, and the location was later identified as Sierra Nevada in Granada, Spain. The short clip shows a camouflaged Tourbillon traveling behind a white Kia XCeed on a mountain road, with the Polo behind the Bugatti. As the vehicles approach what appears to be a temporary traffic signal associated with roadworks, the Kia slows to a stop, and the Tourbillon follows suit. The Polo doesn’t.

There’s a brief squeal of tires before the Volkswagen hits the Bugatti from behind. The video ends almost immediately afterward, so there’s no clear view of whatever damage the impact may have caused to either car. That’s an important distinction because plenty of conclusions could be drawn from a short video. But we don’t know the circumstances surrounding the collision beyond what the footage actually shows.

We also don’t know what happened afterward, whether police were involved, or how any resulting repairs will be handled. What we do know is that the Bugatti involved isn’t exactly something you’ll find sitting at the local body shop. We’ve had plenty of peeks at the Tourbillon, but it’s still in development.

The Math Is Genuinely Absurd

The company says just 250 examples will be built, each carrying a starting price of €3.8 million before taxes. At current exchange rates, that’s roughly $4.4 million. Let’s break down the valuations here just a little because it’s kinda wild.

For some perspective, Volkswagen Spain lists the Polo from €16,900 (about $19,700), with a cash price of €18,304 ($21,300). Bugatti, meanwhile, starts the Tourbillon at €3.8 million before taxes. That means you could theoretically buy about 208 brand-new Polos for the price of a single base Tourbillon. And this isn’t a customer car anyway. It’s a development prototype, which puts it in a valuation bracket of its own.
