СпутникиРНSpaceXРоскосмосNASALAHORE: A special polio vaccination campaign will begin on Monday (today), September 21, across 13 districts of Punjab, targeting more than 10 million children under five years of age with polio vaccine.
The campaign will be conducted across Dera Ghazi Khan, Lahore, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rawalpindi, Rahim Yar Khan, Sheikhupura, Attock, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Kasur and Mianwali. The campaign covers both full and targeted areas of the 13 districts.
Cooridnator of the Punjab Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) Khalid Parvaiz said ensuring access to polio vaccination for every child under five was the programme’s foremost priority. He said special attention would be given to high-risk areas and locations with significant population movement to ensure that no child was missed.
Khalid Parvaiz said the campaign, being conducted from September 21 to 27, would vaccinate children not only at their homes but also at transit points and hospitals. Special vaccination teams have been deployed at key transit points to reach children who are travelling during the campaign.
He said population movement remained an important challenge for the polio programme, as children from families travelling or temporarily moving from one location to another could be difficult to reach consistently. Vaccination activities were therefore being strengthened in areas with significant population movement.
“No child should miss polio vaccination simply because they are travelling,” Khalid Parvaiz said, adding that transit teams would ensure vaccination of eligible children at key points of movement so that children remained protected even while travelling.
He said more than 77,000 polio workers would participate in the campaign. Mobile teams would conduct door-to-door vaccination, while fixed teams would vaccinate children at designated sites and transit teams would provide vaccination at key points of movement.
The EOC coordinator said a total of 39,774 teams, comprising mobile, fixed and transit teams, would participate in the campaign. The teams would conduct door-to-door vaccination while also reaching children who may be away from their homes during the campaign.
In Lahore, the vaccination campaign will continue for seven days through September 27, while vaccination activities in the other targeted districts will continue for four days.
Khalid Parvaiz said an important priority of the campaign was to reach children who may have been missed during previous vaccination activities. He directed district teams to immediately identify and address operational gaps emerging during the campaign and ensure that every eligible child was reached.
He said maintaining vaccination coverage in high-risk areas and locations with significant population movement was particularly important.
Vaccination at transit points would be strengthened, while close coordination among district teams would be maintained to ensure that operational issues were identified and addressed promptly.
The EOC coordinator urged parents to fully cooperate with vaccination teams and ensure that all children under five receive polio drops during the campaign. He said repeated doses of polio vaccine provided additional protection to children and strengthened their immunity against the virus.
“Our priority is clear: to ensure that every eligible child in Punjab receives the two drops of polio vaccine,” Khalid Parvaiz said.
He further said sustained vaccination, effective surveillance, close monitoring of population movement and continued efforts to reach every child were essential for polio eradication. The EOC would continue working with all relevant institutions, district administrations, polio workers and parents to achieve this objective.
Khalid Parvaiz said there would be no compromise on efforts to eliminate poliovirus from Punjab, reaffirming the programme’s commitment to protecting every child and making Punjab free of poliovirus.
