Picture this: It’s the end of the year and you’re excited to view your Spotify Wrapped to see who your most-listened-to artists have been. You’re expecting the round up to include songs from Olivia Rodrigo’s latest album and maybe the `90s bangers you’ve got on your workout playlist. Instead, the year-end tradition reveals you are a top listener of delightful ditties like “Baby Shark,” plenty of Kidz Bop, and the soundtrack of that junior-version musical your kid made it into and listened to on repeat.

Mercifully, Spotify has announced new features that will allow parents to escape this embarrassing fate. The streaming service is rolling out a setting that will let parents who use their Spotify account to entertain everyone in their house choose to remove kids and family programming from influencing their taste profiles. This means animated movie soundtracks, cartoon theme songs, and all other kid content on the streaming platform can effectively be banished from the algorithm that develops your Spotify streaming experience.

Once disabled, the setting will stop kids and family music from factoring into personalized recommendations like Spotify’s Discover Weekly and Daily Mix. And, perhaps most importantly for your social media street cred, kid content will be excluded from listening insights, which includes your yearly Spotify Wrapped. And the change will be retroactive, meaning if it’s already been a big year for Sabrina Carpenter hits covered by Kidz Bop in your house, those won’t count against you in your 2026 Wrapped numbers.

“This update is the latest step in our ongoing efforts to give parents and guardians more control over how they and their kids listen,” Spotify notes. “It builds on our existing tools, like the ability to exclude specific tracks or playlists from your taste profile, and works hand-in-hand with our recently expanded managed accounts for young listeners.”

The feature is rolling out globally on mobile for both Free and Premium users, but is set to include children’s music by default; users who want to keep children’s music separate from their own listening habits will need to manually switch it off.

To do so, Spotify’s press announcement explains, open Spotify and tap your profile picture in the top-left corner, then head to your “Settings and privacy” section. From there, select “Content and display,” where you’ll be able to switch off “Include kids and family music in taste profile.” Just know that it can take up to 48 hours for the change to fully appear in personalized recommendations.
