Adam Scott had his fair share of bad luck on Thursday, going from nearly swinging an ace to his ball getting dangerously close to pond water in one of the unluckiest shots of the year. 

The 42-year-old Australian probably now considers himself fortunate that his ball didn't end up getting wet, following his game against Sam Burns at the Austin Country Club's golf course in Texas' capital. 

Scott seemed to have initially taken the lead on the par-3 11th, as his tee shot was landing near the flag stick. 

The ball, however, never stayed put, first hitting the pole before it rolled down the grass, proving that Scott - a former Masters champion (2011) - was unlucky.

Scott managed to save face when his ball suddenly stopped near the pond.

The former No. 1 ended up making par to tie Burns on the hole. 

Scott and Burns played each other as part of the WGC-Dell Match Play, which started on Wednesday and will go on until March 26. 

The tournament will provide Matt Kuchar with a chance to break at least one record belonging to Tiger Woods. It'll also be the world No. 15's last chance to do so due to this year being the last edition of the Match Play. 

At stake: He needs to win three matches to set the record for most matches won in a tournament that dates to 1999. 

Kuchar is guaranteed three matches in the group format. He'll play against world No. 28 Chris Kirk on Thursday.
