For the first time in its 18 seasons, the World AeroPress Championship is heading to Mexico City. 

The event will take place Sunday, Dec. 6, at Frontón Bucareli in the city’s Colonia Centro. The competition portion will be surrounded by a full day of coffee activities and festivities, including coffee tastings, local food, DJs, tea and gear demonstrations.

At the Roasters Village, 12 local and international roasting companies will pour more than 30 coffees. Attendees can taste their way through the lineup, meet participating roasters and vote for the “2026 Best of the Village.”

Elsewhere at the festival, Spirit Tea will operate a dedicated tea counter, while AeroPress and grinder manufacturer Comandante will offer hands-on equipment experiences.

Of course, the main attraction will be the competition, which centers on a simple manual brewing device that has endeared itself to thousands of coffee aficionados since it first appeared at a Coffee Fest trade show in 2005. 

The 2026 world championship will culminate a global season of regional and national events. In 2025, nearly 8,000 people competed in more than 230 events across 68 countries, according to organizers.

Dozens of national champions are expected to square off at this year’s event, which gives competitors five minutes to brew and present a single AeroPress coffee to a panel of judges. After tasting the entries, the judges point simultaneously toward their preferred cup. One brewer advances from each heat and the others are knocked out until only one champion remains standing. 

The United States representative for Mexico City will be determined Aug. 21 at the American AeroPress Championship in Boston. Hosted by Atomic Coffee Roasters at Big Night Live Studio B, the competition is expected to feature approximately 36 brewers advancing through heats, quarterfinals, semifinals and a head-to-head final. 

Presale tickets for the Mexico City event opened Aug. 11, followed by early-bird tickets on Aug. 14, both at 265 Mexican pesos, or approximately US$15. General admission tickets will be available beginning Oct. 1 for 350 pesos, or approximately $20.
