The imam at the Ann Arbor mosque Abdul El-Sayed frequently attends has scrubbed his YouTube sermons after reports surfaced showing him praising Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and urging Muslims to vote for El-Sayed.
As recently as Tuesday, the Muslim Community Association of Ann Arbor’s YouTube channel carried dozens of sermons from Imam Abdelhamid Algizawi.
Now it shows no public content.

One of the videos removed from public view was Algizawi’s Aug. 2, 2024 sermon honoring Haniyeh, the senior Hamas leader assassinated in Tehran days earlier. Reuters described Haniyeh at the time as one of Hamas’ top political leaders.
In that sermon, according to video reviewed and translated by the Washington Free Beacon, Algizawi called Haniyeh a “symbol of jihad,” a “righteous man,” and asked God to “place him among the martyrs and the righteous.”
Another now-private sermon came after El-Sayed’s Democratic primary victory.
Algizawi described the win as a “very big victory for Muslims” and “for the Islamic nation,” according to the Free Beacon.
In a separate sermon, he told congregants they had an “obligation” to vote for El-Sayed in November to “change the society.”
The Muslim Community Association still lists Algizawi as its imam and religious director.
The Free Beacon also reported that other sermons from Algizawi criticized homosexuality as “against human nature” and warned Muslims against compromising their religious beliefs.
The mosque, Algizawi, and El-Sayed did not respond to the outlet’s requests for comment.
The available evidence shows the videos were removed from public view after the reporting surfaced.
It does not establish who ordered the removals or why.
