Julie Klausner Joins ‘It Happened in Hollywood Live’ at Televerse for a Conversation Celebrating ‘Difficult People’

The acclaimed writer, comedian and creator of Hulu's cult-favorite comedy joins Seth Abramovitch for a live conversation at the Television Academy's annual TV festival.

The Television Academy on Thursday announced that acclaimed writer, comedian, actor and podcaster Julie Klausner will join The Hollywood Reporter‘s Seth Abramovitch for a special live edition of the acclaimed, long-running podcast It Happened in Hollywood.

The taping will take place Friday, Aug. 14, from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. PT during Televerse, the Television Academy’s three-day celebration of television, at the JW Marriott at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles.

“Move over, Madonna summer,” says Abramovitch. “This is the dawning of the Age of Julie Klausner.”

Adds Klausner, “Finally, a chance to talk about my career to somebody besides a therapist.”

Klausner will revisit the making and enduring legacy of Difficult People, the acclaimed Hulu comedy she created and starred in alongside Billy Eichner. Premiering in August 2015, the series ran for three seasons and earned a devoted following for its gleefully acerbic take on show business and unforgettable lineup of guest stars, including Cole Escola in one of the Oh, Mary! mastermind’s earliest television roles.

The series recently received its first Blu-ray release.

Hosted by Abramovitch, senior writer at The Hollywood ReporterIt Happened in Hollywood explores the creative journeys behind some of the most influential films and television shows through in-depth conversations with the artists who made them.

This special Televerse edition of the podcast reunites Klausner and Abramovitch, who first crossed paths at New York’s Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in 2001, for a candid conversation about the creation of Difficult People, from its origins and writing process to its enduring influence on comedy and television.

In addition to creating Difficult People, Klausner has written for television (Apple TV’s Schmigadoon!, Amazon’s The Kids in the Hall), authored the bestselling memoir I Don’t Care About Your Band, and hosts the acclaimed podcast How Was Your Week? 

Televerse is the Television Academy’s annual fan festival celebrating the art of television through exclusive conversations, screenings, reunions and live events featuring some of the medium’s most celebrated creators and performers.
