Avant Chamber Ballet announces its 2026-2027 season

Avant Chamber Ballet has announced its 15th season, and it reflects how the company has grown over the last decade and a half.
The season consists of two subscription packages: Classic Series and Family Series. The Classic Series includes the choice of  3 or 4 full productions with a 20% discount, similar to packages offered over the past 14 years. The Family Series features 3 matinee performances specifically designed for young audiences, with subscriber tickets priced at just $20 each.
“The Family Series opens up ballet to everyone! The tickets are low-cost and the atmosphere is relaxed. It’s more important than ever to take children to see live performing arts and be exposed to life beyond a screen,” said Katie Puder, Avant Chamber Ballet’s Artistic Director.
To accommodate the rehearsal process for two subscription series, the Dallas based company moved into a new facility earlier this year. The space has created new opportunities for the company.
“Our new studio tripled our studio space so we now can have far more classes and rehearsals each day. We now have adult beginner ballet classes and have a full Pilates studio open to the public,” Puder said. 
The season begins Halloween weekend (October 30 and 31) with an audience favorite, Dracula.
“The music for our production of Dracula is the Philip Glass score that he wrote to accompany the rerelease of the 1931 classic Dracula movie and it’s just brilliant music. To match the modern and minimalist score, the staging and choreography is set in modern times with bold and stark color-blocked costumes and sets. It’s a different approach than any other version of the ballet that has come to Dallas and has been highly requested to return from patrons since we premiered it in 2023,” Puder said.

The company’s presentation of The Nutcracker with Live Orchestra highlights the company’s commitment to performing with live music. This year, the ballet company partners with Dallas Chamber Symphony for the holiday classic.
“I think live music is half of the experience of going to see a ballet. You wouldn’t see opera with singers and recorded music. To me it’s just as important of a collaboration between dancers and the music. It makes all difference in the world to both the performers and the audience,” Puder said.
The Nutcracker with Live Orchestra will be presented over two weekends, November 28 and 29 and December 4-6. The Family Series will feature Nutcracker: Short & Suite on December 3 and 7, a delightful 45-minute, sensory-friendly version of the holiday classic perfect for introducing young audiences.
In honor of Valentine’s Day, the Classic Series will immerse the audience in a celebration of romance with Love and Loss: Swan Lake Act 2 + Duets on February 20 and 21. The program will feature live orchestra conducted by Brad Cawyer and works by Christopher Wheeldon, Paul Mejia, and Petipa.
“There’s a reason Swan Lake is still such a popular ballet for 200+ years! It is amazing music with some of the most hypnotizingly beautiful choreography for the ensemble. It’s a masterpiece of art,” Puder said.

The Family Series performance on February 20 will be My First Swan Lake. This 45-minute version features the famous lakeside scenes, including the “Dance of the Little Swans” and the magical first meeting between the Prince and Odette, the Swan Queen.
The Classic Series concludes with Ballet to Broadway with a live orchestra conducted by Brad Cawyer on April 24 and 25.  Bridging the elegance of classical ballet with the high-octane energy of musical theater, the performance features Katie Puder’s Rhapsody in Blue, Christopher Wheeldon’s Carousel pas de deux, and more to be announced. The Family Series wraps April 24 with Broadway Babes, a shortened version of The Classic Series production.

“Ballets like Rhapsody in Blue speak to our identity in art since it’s a collaboration of jazz and classical music. Gershwin said it’s a “musical kaleidoscope of America,” and it’s so easy to appreciate it even if you’ve never gone to see ballet live before,” Puder said. 
All performances will be presented at Moody Performance Hall in the Dallas Arts District. Subscriptions are now on sale.
