An arrest affidavit details a deadly incident last month in Deep Ellum that involved a man being pushed down stairs.
The affidavit says three people were leaving a bar on Main Street when they got into a verbal argument with 21-year-old Josiah Gomez while on the stairway from the upstairs bar. One witness said Gomez told Sylvester Victor Jr., 26, to walk faster, then called him a slur before pushing him down the stairs.
Dallas police said the incident happened on Sunday, July 5, around 11 p.m.
Police said Gomez then stomped on Victor’s head after the push.
Victor was transported to the hospital, where he later died.
Gomez was arrested on July 22 and charged with aggravated assault; police said those charges were upgraded to murder after investigators were notified by the medical examiner that Victor died as a result of his injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
