German mega-show Gamescom officially gets under way this evening with the Opening Night Live showcase hosted by Geoff "bright trainers" Keighley. And we'll be covering all of the news and announcements live, right here, in this article. Read more
Our live coverage of this event has finished.
14:33 pm UTC
Good afternoon! Here we are again. A couple of months have passed, the temperature has dropped, and we're facing another showcase. Will this one be an exciting one? We'll have to wait and see. More importantly: what are you looking foward to seeing?
Robert Purchese
15:52 pm UTC
Madame-Drofla says: I hope Geoff makes it worth Berties time, he's missing out on Big Walk for this.
True this!
We'll rate the showcase on a 'missing out on Big Walk' scale. Let's see if it's worth it.
Robert Purchese
15:53 pm UTC
drayfield says: I'm looking forward to Bloodborne 2 but then again I'm a masochistic idiot who yearns for disappointment.
One of us! One of us!
Robert Purchese
15:53 pm UTC
UsefulIdiot II says: I swear if Capcom announces a VR mode for Requiem now, a couple of days after I finally caved and started my first playthrough, I'm going ballistic.
Fate: tempted.
Robert Purchese
15:54 pm UTC
Gnort says: Who wants to take a bet that there will be some sort of generative AI themed announcement that will go down like a lead balloon, and the people making the announcement will be shocked by this reaction, having expected everyone to love it?
Would they dare? Pop this on your bingo cards anyway. Let's see what happens.
Robert Purchese
15:55 pm UTC
An hour-and-a-half to go
The thing about Gamescom being in Germany means the showcases are at a sensible European time, so we're actually not that far from the off. Now is your chance to amass the snacks.
Robert Purchese
15:56 pm UTC
Vordus says: I'm currently looking forward to a long series of disappointments interspersed with ads. And possibly opening up the bottle of rum that's sitting in my cupboard.
I like this approach for two reasons: you can't be disappointed, and rum.
Robert Purchese
15:56 pm UTC
bcdcdude says: C'mon Shenmue IV (and Skies of Arcadia)
Let's gooooo!
Robert Purchese
16:00 pm UTC
Dale says: There's going to be a Path of Exile 2 announcement as well, btw. GGG has been teasing it via their official channel. It's unlikely to be a 1.0 release date - that'll come at Exilecon. It's more likely to be a new class reveal, likely the Duelist or Shadow, along with 0.5.5 mini-league details.
Oh good to know. A new class that's going to be included for 1.0, I guess? Because I didn't think they were doing any more major updates now until that release. Will it be this year, I wonder? Will it happen around ExileCon in November? Go up against GTA 6 - it'll be great!
Robert Purchese
17:19 pm UTC
Pre-show starts in 10 minutes
Good almost-evening, good almost-evening, good almost-evening. I am currently ordering a pizza and I've just eaten a strange chocolate lollipop. It's all health food for me tonight. How are you all doing?
Robert Purchese
17:19 pm UTC
Lovely to see so many live report regulars here! What would these shows be without you?
Robert Purchese
17:27 pm UTC
Kami says: Hopefully Geoff's trainers will be blinding tonight. Every time he wears something sensible, the shows aren't great... I want to see big bright neon-pink trainers with RGB lighting!
Let's hope so! He should really just accept and embrace it at this point. I wonder if he wears them again after the show or if he enshrines them somehow.
Robert Purchese
17:29 pm UTC
swedishfish says: I'm ordering some loaded fries on Deliveroo. I've had an absolute day. Lunch was a double espresso and Huel and I feel nothing but pure *hanger*.
The diet of the future!
Robert Purchese
17:31 pm UTC
There's a pre-show counter on the screen denoting that we're a few minutes away. I remember these pre-shows being quite entertaining in the past. That's the kiss of death isn't it?
Robert Purchese
17:34 pm UTC
Rogueywon says: So now Bertie has given us the pre-show kiss of death, what do we reckon? A 20 minute Nvidia advert, made entirely using AI, for the DLSS5 yassification filter and a new GPU you'll need a mortgage to afford?
Ha! This is a good point, though - how much AI will we see tonight, covertly or otherwise? Mind you, Geoff likes to make An Address at the beginning of a show relevant to a big topic in games. I wonder what it will be today.
Robert Purchese
17:34 pm UTC
The pre-show begins
And we're off! YES! It's Kyle Bosman, who is very entertaining. They're our host.
Robert Purchese
17:36 pm UTC
We're getting a game announcement and it's Worms. You know, that really old game Worms that you must have played in one iteration or another over the years. It's CGI worms at the moment. Oh, now it's not. We're seeing grid-based, 3D, turn-based gameplay. That looked okay?
Worms: Galactic Tactics coming 2027 on PC and consoles including Switch 2.
Robert Purchese
17:37 pm UTC
A train game! Is it a train game? There are a lot of trains in it. It'd be weird if this was Crusader Kings wouldn't it?
Go wild for Train Sim World 7! A series I've never heard of. It's out 15th September.
Robert Purchese
17:39 pm UTC
Wait! Hold that excitement because here comes Atari with a theme park sim. It's the original tycoon game. Rollercoaster Tycoon?
It actually looks quite good?
Huge spiralling rollercoasters! Extortionate prices! Broken rides!
It is Rollercoaster Tycoon and it's coming soon to Early Access.
Robert Purchese
17:40 pm UTC
What on earth are we seeing now? There's a pop song as over-cute fluffy animals run around a 3D world. Oh it's a sort of Pokemon? Oh with farming as well? This is bonkers. I bet Lottie knows what it is.
It's called Animo and I've no idea what it was.
Robert Purchese
17:42 pm UTC
Pretty fantasy action game alert! Is this Tides of Annihilation? The one that Jennifer English was involved with?
Shades of Stellar Blade but less futuristic. Chinese script by the looks of things. A huge phoenix. Colossal stone monsters. Nonses story.
A game logo I can't even parse. Genigods Nezha I am realiably told - thanks!
Robert Purchese
17:44 pm UTC
Horror game alert! I think.
AND ARGH THE HORROR AT AN UNFURNISED ROOM!
Oh that's not the real creepiness. It's dark. Someone is alone. The player is looking into a pocket watch and seeing a reflection of themselves. In the corner of the room there's a load of words scribbled on the wall.
Uh oh it's all going wrong now. Panic. Lights off. Banging on the door.
Perceptum. Spring 2027.
Robert Purchese
17:45 pm UTC
Oh I've played this game! It's called Acornia and it's actually very good. There are two world states, one that you adventure in, one that you build a cake shop in.
You suck stuff into your cheeks then spit it out - you create your own ammo that way. This trailer isn't really doing it justice - I had a great time with it. That cheek-sucking feels great and teh atmosphere of the game is lovely.
Robert Purchese
17:47 pm UTC
Acornia: Mirror Worlds coming next year.
Onto Valar Mortis now, the game from Ghostrunner Studio One More Level (I loved Ghostrunner). Actor Vincent Cassel is in it?
We're in Napoleonic France and everything's gnarled and twisted and we're fighting horrid monsters. It's more of an action boss fighty game than Ghostrunner, but there's a mix of BioShocky like off-hand magic with a weapon in the other hand.
Valor Mortis on October 13th.
Robert Purchese
17:48 pm UTC
Tank Rat release date flashed past then. 15th January 2027. Tank Rat looks bizarre but interesting.
Robert Purchese
17:49 pm UTC
Murals there. I missed some of that. A colourful isometric action adventure, by the looks of things.
So many games!
Robert Purchese
17:51 pm UTC
Humankind 2 is coming in 2027
Amplitude now. This must be Humankind 2. We're seeing scenes montage through history and now we're seeing the Civ-like action across the ages on screen. Humankind 2 is coming in 2027.
Robert Purchese
17:53 pm UTC
A Focus game here now with some brush stroke world as a robot makes friends with a dragon cub. A third-person action game with big action. The dragon companion can help you sort of fly. You can boost and punch from miles away.
Delta: Defy All Gods. Early 2027.
Robert Purchese
17:54 pm UTC
A game for two player co-op enthusiasts now. Orbitals? I love that this is a genre now.
A montage of isometric gameplay sections showing some driving, some platforming and more.
It's not Orbitals, it's Age Twisters. No release date but you can Wishlist.
Robert Purchese
17:55 pm UTC
Onimusha expanded demo available now
Quick glimpse at Onimusha, which Chris is telling me is enjoyably camp, which has immediately sparked my interest. Love the over the top bosses.
The demo has apparently been expanded. A new location has been added and there's a "deadly" duel there. Expanded demo available now.
Robert Purchese
17:57 pm UTC
Mariachi Legends, a sort of pixel aesthetic Metroidvania. Very colourful. Mariachi music in the background obviously. Spanish voices I can't understand but that sound very sexy.
27th April 2027.
Robert Purchese
17:58 pm UTC
We cut to Kyle Bosmans interviewing the game director - it's always weird seeing someone's home, someone's bedroom. This is Mexican take on Castlevania, basically. Alucard was apparently half-way to being a mariachi anyway, so they've done the rest.
"It's very mexican" apparently. It's a Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania mix, apparently. You can cook traditional mexican dishes that power you up before big boss fights.
Robert Purchese
18:00 pm UTC
Kyle is doing some amusing predictions for the full show ahead. Maybe it's things he's excited for. I'd say he was padding but it's pre-recorded.
Robert Purchese
18:01 pm UTC
The full show begins
And we cut to the Gamescom auditorium and there's Geoff Keighley, resplendent in... the same thing he always wears. And guess what? His trainers are black. Repeat: they are not garish.
He's opening the show in German and he's promising us two hours of... stuff. There'll probably a lot of adverts in the middle.
Robert Purchese
18:04 pm UTC
That's quite an impressive stage set-up. He's talking about starting ONL here in 2019. It feels like it's been forever, Geoff, forever. Lights and cogs and garish designs are everywhere.
Geoff's telling us his dad passed away a few day's after Gamescom last year. He's attributing this to his father. There's a glossy sheen to his eyes. That's touching.
Now we get a glance at a hot topic. Geoff's talking about the industry changing, about layoffs, about the rising cost of gameplay components. But developers aren making new games! Big games, small games!
We're going to see games on stage from places like... France! Wild!
Robert Purchese
18:05 pm UTC
He's giving us a rundown of what's to come. Witcher 3 expansion Songs of the Past "later in the show". I thought it might open it.
Robert Purchese
18:05 pm UTC
We're going to get a musical performance for Mewgenics.
And we start with a new game announcement "no one is expecting tonight" from a very well known developer.
Robert Purchese
18:08 pm UTC
Hoyoverse is making a co-op Elden Ring-like game and it looks great
We cut to a strange fantasy landscape. A huge dragon. It's Hoyoverse doing something edgy and dark! It's very Elden Ring looking actually.
A huge fire god! A person on a horse. But they can't avoid a pretty character. It looks like co-op fantasy boss fighting. It's very pretty - the scale is impressive. The creatures are wonderfully designed.
Big swords, bows, huge powers. Healing powers! Resurrection! Is this a shared world game? An MMO? The team is three or four players together.
Nodus Fall, it's called. Geoff calls it an original co-op action game where you play as a Weaver. You have to fight "mighty mythic beings" by coordinating.
Robert Purchese
18:09 pm UTC
swedishfish says: 🚨 Yorkshire accent detected 🚨
Robert Purchese
18:11 pm UTC
X-COM-like Rainbow 6 Six Tactics announced for next year
Co-host Sjokz on stage now. Presumably Geoff goes off to powder his nose while she's on. A new Rainbow Six game now. Rainbow Six Tactics. Or Rainbow Six X-Com as I like to think of it.
Turn-based isometric Rainbow Six. It looks very po-faced. Oh there's a cool war room. You have to choose your elite operatives. Oh you can zoom in to third-person it looks like. I don't know if that's just replays or you can play in third-person though. There seems to be a swift pace to it.
The main characters look a bit bland but the action itself looks good.
Rainbow 6 Tactics is coming next year.
Robert Purchese
18:12 pm UTC
Skyclad says: Hoyoverse copying Elden Ring, Monster Hunter and Dragon's Dogma ... hopefully also something for solo players.
That's exactly it, actually.
Robert Purchese
18:13 pm UTC
Gears of War: E-Day now. I feel like we've seen a lot of this already this year, but Geoff's pretty excited that we're seeing something new. We're going to learn more about the baddie, apparently, who's no General Raam, if you ask me.
Robert Purchese
18:14 pm UTC
Um. It's Gears of War? I'm not sure what else to say about it other than it looks like Gears of War. A bit bigger, a bit shinier, very muscular, very takes it self seriously. Marcus growls a lot and says cheesy things.
6th October.
Robert Purchese
18:15 pm UTC
Anata now, a free-to-play open-world game from Netease that's coming to mobiles as well. This sounds like it's paying for a big chunk of this conference.
Robert Purchese
18:15 pm UTC
Dale says: You know this is gonna be mature because someone said the F word in the trailer.
Hah, quite.
Robert Purchese
18:18 pm UTC
Bewildering open-world anime Ananta arrives in January
Having said that, it's quite stylishly put together. A mix of modern world, anime, and RPG. Lots of over the top stuff going on, some ridiculous combat. Not exactly sure what the gameplay is because this trailer is jumping around a lot. Flying cars!
Oh we're walking through a city scape and driving through it, and skating through it. Two cities, one epic adventure apparently. We have to go and find martial arts masters to train us. Okay there's an earnestness about this that's quite endearing.
15th January 2027.
Robert Purchese
18:19 pm UTC
Big scream for Silent Hill: Townfall there, the dismal Scottish adventure in the mist. Dismal in an atmospheric way.
Actor Terry O'Quinn, Jordan Adepo, and I missed the other person's name, are in it.
Oh, that's it. 24th September. Not long now.
Robert Purchese
18:20 pm UTC
Brief Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy segment flashing by now. We'll have a review of this quite soon - keep your eyes peeled.
Robert Purchese
18:22 pm UTC
Stylish pirate puppet game Sea of Remnants now. Chris is telling me he wasn't particularly impressed by what he played of it.
Robert Purchese
18:23 pm UTC
Crimson Desert: Enhanced is available now
Crimson Desert: Enhanced now. Includes all updates so far - well, naturally. New story moments, expanded voice over. That's available now.
Robert Purchese
18:24 pm UTC
Tides of Annihlation now. Grace Ashcroft actor Angela Sant'Albano confirmed as the new voice of Gwendolyn, having taken over from Jennifer English, who left the role for personal reasons.
This game is based on Arthurian legend, but set in a modern kind of fantasy world.
Robert Purchese
18:26 pm UTC
We're seeing some some of the very showy combat now. There are shades of Bayonetter about this - huge, over the top moves with ridiculous aerial combat. Fighting on the back of dragons!
No release date.
Robert Purchese
18:29 pm UTC
Lofsong is a monochromatic stunner in the making
A trailer from Turin, Italy - Unrelated Games, the developer is called. Is this the token small artsy indie game? Lonesome, it's called.
Ooh, a monocrhome, sand-blasted world. It's very minimalistic-looking. A character in red in a greyscale world is making the sands shift around them. Now we're seeing them run around. A very zoomed-out isometric point of view. Shades of Monument Valley about it.
Lofsong, sorry, it's called. Wishlist now.
Robert Purchese
18:30 pm UTC
Locke from Lost is in Silent Hill: Townfall
Alert! Terry O'Quinn, who's confirmed as being in Silent Hill: Townfall, is Locke from Lost! Repeat: Locke from Lost is in the game - /huge orange peel smile.
Robert Purchese
18:31 pm UTC
Glossed over the Megaman segment there. There's a new 2D platformer coming. But there's also a Megaman skin coming to Pragmata? We saw a glimpse of it. That was creeepy.
Robert Purchese
18:32 pm UTC
Rayman now! This is very pretty. The Macharena is playing in the background. Rayman Legends Untold 1st October.
Robert Purchese
18:34 pm UTC
Ooh. A new announcement. A Twin Peaks-like rural town. But oh no someone's been splatted.
Cascadia 1996. People tearing around in vehicles, shooting each other. I think this is the PUBG spin-off game. It's wild and very over the top.
Garish colours, garish moves. Slides! Lots of action. Bashing faces on things.
PUBG. Ded.Net. Is that what it's called? I think so. No date. Join the closed beta.
Robert Purchese
18:35 pm UTC
Once Human is free on console today apparently.
Robert Purchese
18:36 pm UTC
Control Resonant now! Not long until this comes out. Slick, exuberant third-person action, mixed with all the weirdness and reality-bending ridiculousness we love Remedy for.
I wonder if it's too over the top to hold the suspense of the Control world? Big cheers from the audience.
24th September.
Robert Purchese
18:38 pm UTC
Dawnwalker now! Very excited about this. Don't say anything more Bertie, don't say anything more.
From the former Witcher 3 game director and many other people who worked on that game. The start of a new saga of games, apparently. You are part-vampire, part human, and part witch.
The game arrives 3rd September.
Robert Purchese
18:38 pm UTC
spookyxelectric says: The Witcher III-2 should be good.
That's a good way of putting it!
Robert Purchese
18:39 pm UTC
Game of Thrones time! War for Westeros. This is a real-time strategy game which is a great fit for GOT, given the warring that goes on. There's Jon Snow, who knows nothing. There's Danaerys with her OP dragons. There's Jaime Lannister. It's not the best looking game I've seen but I'm in. Early 2027.
Sounds like Charles Dance did the voiceover.
Robert Purchese
18:41 pm UTC
Darksiders Genesis developer Airship now to show us a new isometric sci-fi thriller. Dust: Origins, I think it was called.
Airship Syndicate, sorry, is the developer.
Looks like a twin-stick kind of shooter, although with a bit more emphasis on tactical play. Lots of dark corridors on space vessels and facilities, with big mutated creatures.
Dusto: Origins. No release date.
Robert Purchese
18:42 pm UTC
Oh the auditorium has gone dark! A pulsing light show. Is this a big announcement? A computer voice is talking. Oh it's just a Gamescom announcement. Like, people are already there.
Robert Purchese
18:44 pm UTC
We're moving onto Exodus now, the Mass Effect-like sci-fi game from Wizards of the Coast and Archetype, and many former Mass Effect developers.
We're going to see more of Salt, the awakened octopus crew member. She wears a mech suit in combat but lives in a tank on your base.
Robert Purchese
18:45 pm UTC
Mass Effect-like Exodus gets an April 2027 release date
I'm holding out hope for this. Everything I've seen so far looks spot on, and you know what, we do need a new Mass Effect-like game? And I love the ideas around time-dilation that this has.
Oh a release date! 7th April 2027.
Robert Purchese
18:45 pm UTC
ChrisTapsellEG says: DUST: ORANGES sorry just had to pop in and say that
Robert Purchese
18:47 pm UTC
Now we're seeing Wizards of the Coast's other game Warlock! This is the third-person action starring Maggie Robertson as the very famous Dungeon & Dragons magic user Tasha, who she's playing in the game.
We've seen nothing of this so far so I'm excited to see what it looks like.
Robert Purchese
18:53 pm UTC
Third-person D&D action game Warlock impresses in first gameplay trailer
Invoke is making this. Invoke used to be called Tuque games, which made Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, which wasn't very good.
We're seeing Tasha give Kaatri her powers here - make a pact with here. And here's the game world! Cobbled streets, big wooden doors, third-person.
Tasha misty steps through a grating and she's now in an underground chamber or ruin - a large one. She casts some magic on the wall and then throws a broken bit of staircase at it so she can jump on it. They she teleports to a platform. Now she's in a chamber filled with monsters.
She magically pulls a pillar over. She stops time to get behind a big circular flying monster - a Beholder? She carries on, into a watery alley way. She powers up what is presumably eldritch blast to take some enemies down. Now she's out in the open again, overlooking a field.
She summons a floating table to put some ingredients on it to cast a spell of some kind. It starts raining - she did that, apparently. What was the good of that? She did some lightning that seemed to work with the water.
The action looks fluid but the action itself doesn't look especially detailed. She's using a sword now, parrying a bit, dodging, but also using an array of powers to levitate enemies. She alternately hits with a big hammer and a sword, and now there's a floating dagger?
She approaches a large ogre mini-boss and gets knocked around by it. She tethers the ogre to the ground with magic and then slays it with her sword.
We zoom out - the vertical slice is over.
Warlock is coming 2027.
Robert Purchese
18:56 pm UTC
Magic carpet surfing is back in 1001 Threads of Mizan
A game based on 1001 Arabian Nights now, and it looks like a third-person action game. People are surfing around on flying carpets. They are a team of three fighting together - I wonder if they're all players?
A narrator is telling us the story of the game in the meantime. We see a towering monster as the rug-surfers fly around it, fighting it. I wonder how that will be represented in the actual game, for this is a CGI look.
1001 Threads of Mizan. The demo is at Gamescom. No release date.
Robert Purchese
18:57 pm UTC
FTJT says: Idk i thought Warlock looked promising. Little bit weightless maybe, but i like the concept and I like a proper dodge roll
Yeah, likewise. I like the D&D angle too. Lacks a bit of detail, mayabe at the moment, in the combat systems I mean. But promising.
Robert Purchese
18:57 pm UTC
I've slightly glossed over Silver Palace House of Greed, which looked like a decent third-person anime horror game?
Robert Purchese
18:58 pm UTC
Metro 2039 now, which is being made in Ukraine by 4A during an actual war.
4A are here on stage to tell us about the game.
Robert Purchese
19:00 pm UTC
We're getting a new gameplay trailer. "Now that war is at our doorstep, we've built a game about the consequence." It must be a surreal environment to make a game in. It's remarkable, really, that they're able to.
Robert Purchese
19:01 pm UTC
Lots of talking. I wonder how much Geoff asked them for this.
Robert Purchese
19:03 pm UTC
Metro 2039 dazzles in grim new gameplay trailer
We have coverage of this going live tomorrow, incidentally - keep those eyes peeled.
Incredible detail in the footage we're seeing - my PC is sweating in anticipation. Densley detailed undergounrd worlds and environments, full of homemade contraptions and bodged together tech. The gun crafting looks impressive.
This is grim but gorgeous. February 2027 for Metro 2039.
Robert Purchese
19:04 pm UTC
SBandy says: RIP Dolly Parton. Just needs to be said. Legend.
Oh dear! No! A legend.
Robert Purchese
19:05 pm UTC
Meanwhile, Snoop is coming to Hitman. From 27th August - that's this week. He's the new Elusive Target.
Robert Purchese
19:06 pm UTC
NC now and a ridiculously handsome MMO world. With lots of cleavage. And swimming! Wet bottms! Big monsters! More cleavage! Impressively colourful screen-filling powers! Very fast combat, if that's the actual speed it plays at.
Is this Aion? It is Aion. 5th October.
Robert Purchese
19:08 pm UTC
Paradox reveals Mad Max-like city builder Afterworld
This looks a bit like Mad Max, the game we're seeing now. A post-apocalyptic world. It has to be Mad Max, no? Deserty. Big vehicles. Restore America. It's America?
Afterworld: Your Empire from the Ashes. This is the Paradox city builder.
Robert Purchese
19:09 pm UTC
It's 8pm, we're halfway through. Another Hoyoverse game now.
Robert Purchese
19:09 pm UTC
Kami says: I wish Tabula Rasa was still around... Aion was a poor replacement.
Nice reference! What did happen to Richard Garriott? He disappeared after Shroud of the Avatar.
Robert Purchese
19:10 pm UTC
Petit Planet, that was called, and it's very cute looking - the Hoyoverse game. A cosy galactic life simulation game.
Robert Purchese
19:10 pm UTC
Musical performance time! Toilet break! Pizza break!
Robert Purchese
19:11 pm UTC
Vordus says: IIRC Richard Garriott went big on his realworld hobbies. I seem to recall him being interviewed after the OceanGate disaster as he was a major figure in the Explorers Society.
Oh of course, yes. I read his autobiography actually. It's excellent.
Robert Purchese
19:12 pm UTC
I met Garriott, actually, at a Spanish game conference. He's very nice.
Robert Purchese
19:14 pm UTC
Mewgenics is coming to console really soon
Nice break for the audience there! Oh and breaking news apparently. Mewgenics is coming to consoles on 8th September.
Robert Purchese
19:17 pm UTC
Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 there, flashing by. It's out today.
1666: Amsterdam now, which I played a bunch of recently. I was very encouraged. It's got a lot of ideas - maybe one too many - and it's a bit janky, but it's interesting, and Amsterdam makes for an evocative playground.
The early access release is very soon. Roughly 10 hours of the game will be available. Oh! The early access is out now! Of course!
Robert Purchese
19:17 pm UTC
Sorry to everyone reading about the login issues! We're doing what we can to fix them. But, yeah.
Robert Purchese
19:18 pm UTC
We're seeing an oddball Japanese game now with a woman in super small jean shorts. It's third-person action but in a bonkers kind of way. Almost Dead Rising-like with thehuge combos.
Showa American Story. Wishlist now. Connor is apparently into this.
Robert Purchese
19:19 pm UTC
I've played this truck sim game! It's Road Kings. 11th March it's coming out. It mixes arcade gaming with truck simming. I had to deliver supplies to a wind farm that was being ruined in a hurricane-like storm. It was fun. I was sliding on the ice, things we're falling down, the sky was on fire. Curious mix of ideas.
Robert Purchese
19:20 pm UTC
IGN shout-out there in the video feed. No Eurogamer shout-out, I see. How dare they.
Robert Purchese
19:21 pm UTC
spookyxelectric says: AHH YES, SHOWA AMERICAN STORY. Whatever that Suda 51 meets Shenmue thing I just saw was, it's 100% my vibe.
An unexpected vote of confidence!
Robert Purchese
19:23 pm UTC
Rock Band-like Stage Tour is out this year, but we don't know when, weirdly
Stage Tour now - a new rhythm action game. A new Guitar Hero-like game, basically. I miss Guitar Hero so bad. It looks like exactly the same thing. It's even got the same graphics - shh don't, don't.
There's a drum kit as well? Does it come with plastic peripherals? You can duel people. There's karaoke? Ah so it's basically Rock Band.
It's out this year! But there's no actual date? What?
Robert Purchese
19:23 pm UTC
TinyKaiju says: Plastic instruments are back!
Robert Purchese
19:24 pm UTC
The Crazy Take reboot now. We're seeing multiplayer from it and it looks fast and slidey and a bit low on detail? Nevertheless, the speed is there. Coming next year.
Robert Purchese
19:25 pm UTC
Turok Origins delayed to spring 2027
Turok Origins now. Bad dino people want to destroy humanity. We need to use our superpowered warriors to stop them. Chris has played it and he doesn't seem overly impressed. Destiny-like.
Spring 2027. That's a delay for Turok Origins, then, which was expected this year.

Dog people! This is a co-op action game. A blend of tower defense and third-person shooting. Bright and colourful, a bit Starship Troopersy.
Gravhounds, coming 2026. So, this year. At some point.

A Lego city building game! That... makes sense. It's bright, it's colourful. Lego Skylines.

A co-op shooter now where you've got to clear up the world from alien invasion. Big, over the top action and enemies. You also need to build stuff, it looks like.
Exterminauts. Wishlist now. That's an admittedly good name.

A Heroes of Might & Magic 3 remake!
A Heroes of Might & Magic 3 remake? Are you kidding me!
It's being remade with lots of colour and animations. It genuinely looks lovely. I wonder if the gameplay has changed much? This must have been what the Olden Era game was building up to?
Regarldess, I'm excited. No release date.

This is a very loved game!

Malek86 says: Tried Path of Exiles a few years back, it looked super daunting. When the sequel is properly released, it might be a good time to try and get into that instead, as would everyone else? Is it more a little bit more welcoming for new players?
I went to it as a first-timer when it arrived in early access and was massively impressed. It's been honed and tweaked a lot since then. I think it's one of those games where the depth is there but there's nothing to prevent you laoding it up and hitting stuff and having fun without acknowledging any of that.
Short answer: give it a go. I don't think it's as daunting as it seems.

Kami says: As I said, I got in via Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Really awesome game. Would be awesome to see it with a modern paint job.
A Dark Messiah remake would be wonderful! Heck, now that Arkane Lyon looks like it's going to be independent again, I wonder if Ubisoft could commission it?

Dale says: @Malek86 Poe2 is a LOT more welcoming. I always bounced off the first one, but am super into POE2. A good accessible class to start with is the Mercenary, as they play like a top-down shooter, with a crossbow and grenades (and, later, turrets).Surprised it's launching in 1.0 so soon though. As well as the Duelist, they still have the Templar, Shadow and (I think) 1 or 2 other classes to add to the game, along with their ascendancies, skills, weapons, and a huge amount of work needed on the Passive Skill Tree to accommodate them. Unless they're not going to launch with all the classes?
Yeah Jonathan Rogers has said to me before that they may not launch with all of the classes.

No Law looks very stylish. It's like a condensed Cyberpunk 2077, all neon and futuristic. More focus on action here as you explore a dense city world and get in a lot of fights. Coming from a small Swedish team called Neon Giant next year.

A strange game now set in a twisted modern world with giant floating many-armed blobs in the sky. Soldiers are infiltrating a den. Cinder, it's called, coming from NC. Not much actual information on it.

Stellan Skarsgard's in this next game. This is the Soma developer Frictional's new game, published by Kepler. It's called Ontos. An atmospheric horror.
We're on a space station where some eerie shit is happening, for want of a better word. A scientist has plugs in their head. There's a wall of mice in traps. Disturbing events all around.
Ontos is coming 2027.

Inscryption dev reveals Pony Island 2, coming April next year
This next game is from the Inscription dev Daniel Mullins. This is bonkers looking. A mix of game types.
Pony Island 2: Panda Circus. It's coming in April next year.

Zoopunk now. Rhino people. Squirrel people. Rabbit people. There was a strong whiff of AI around this but its Chinese developer said it was made by humans.
Lots of fast, third-person action. No release date.

A Diablo-like game from Kraton flashed by. Now an NC game, a fast, bright, modern, FPS, that has a mix of building and lots of jumping around floating islands. And pretty characters, of course. It's quite Fortnitey.
Like or Die, that's called. Challenge accepted.

Final Fantasy 7's Naoki Hamaguchi. This must be the Revelations slot. He says it's great to be back at Gamescom. A brand new, exclusive trailer.
We're going to get an unforgettable experience apparently. Switch 2 mentioned. Available spring 2027. We already knew that.

The trailer is montaging at the moment. Ruby Weapon. Emerald Weapon. Ultima Weapon. These are the huge summons I think. We're seeing our team take on some very clourful demons. They're parachuting. They're chocobo riding.
They're shooting missiles at monsters! Why does no one else do that? Oh, hmm. And that's it. A nice look but hardly the reveal I was expecting.

The Witcher 3 is getting a Remastered Edition in September - free for existing owners
CD Projekt Red logo. Oh there's a remastered version of the game coming out! Remastered visuals. Enhanced combat - I wonder what that means. Better traversal. Better mount handling. Updated monsters. Updated skill trees. Transmogs. Photo mode.
Includes the two expansions. It's a free upgrade for all existing owners. 29th September.

Our first look at The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past closes the show
Now Songs of the Past, the new expansion. Set in a twisted kind of forest world. That tree creature from the artowk pulls us in. Geralt's got the chain around his arm that Ciri has in The Witcher 4 trailer.
It's a short look but an exciting one.

Witcher 3 expansions free to base game owners today
Miles Tost is on stage talking about the Remastered Edition, and it sounds comprehensive.
About Songs of the Past: he's talking about Geralt's new chain. This chain is about passing the baton onto Ciri. Oh it's in the Witcher 1 intro! I think we've seen this chain in the Witcher 1 Netflix show when Geralt fights the Striga - the Princess - for Foltest. I think it's Foltest.
He's talking about the new region. I didn't catch its name. It's uncannily idyllic. There's a secret lurking under the surface. Sounds a bit like Toussaint in Blood and Wine in that it's a very pretty world with darkness underneath.
They've got some news about the other expansions as well. Both the previous expansions - Heart of Stone and Blood and Wine - are going to be free for everyone who owns the base game.
