Dmitry Peskov stressed that Armenia could withdraw from the Collective Security Treaty Organization if it no longer required its membership
MOSCOW, August 24. /TASS/. Armenia’s membership in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Kiev’s strikes on Ozon warehouses, and the UK’s participation in the war against Russia on Ukraine’s side were the main topics of Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov’s Monday briefing.
TASS has compiled the Russian presidential press secretary’s key statements.
President’s schedule- Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet today at the Kremlin with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian e-commerce warehouses- The Kiev regime opened Pandora's box with its attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure and is facing retaliation every day and will continue to do so: "They are feeling the consequences in Kiev every day and every night, and they will continue to feel them."
- "I’d like to refer you back to President [Vladimir] Putin’s interview on Saturday. He clearly stated that Ukraine is attempting to strike commercial trade infrastructure and is pursuing a variety of plans. The Kiev regime is not succeeding in this. Most importantly, this prevents the Kiev regime from having even the slightest influence on the dynamics that everyone is observing on the front line."
- The government is closely "monitoring the situation" around marketplaces amid Ukrainian attacks, and "various options for providing support in such a difficult situation are being considered and developed together with business representatives."
Armenia’s CSTO membership, its desire to join EU- Armenia may withdraw from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) if it no longer requires its membership: "If Yerevan no longer needs to be a part of such an important organization that ensures regional security and serves its national interests, then it is free to make the decision to leave."
- "So far, we have heard statements from various Armenian representatives who have said that, yes, the membership has been frozen, but Armenia does not plan to withdraw at present. At least, these are the statements we have heard so far."
- Speaking of Armenia’s application for EU membership, it is important to consider the experiences of Turkey and other countries that are "still stuck in that process": "As for [Armenia’s] application for EU membership, I always recommend recalling the experience of Turkey and other countries whose applications were submitted decades ago yet remain stuck in the same place."
- By applying for EU membership, Armenia will face deep legislative contradictions within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), which will harm Yerevan itself.
UK’s participation in war against Russia- The UK is adding fuel to the fire of the Ukrainian conflict and plotting against the peace process: "Britain methodically and regularly adds fuel to the fire [of the Ukrainian conflict]. And it methodically and regularly plots in order to prevent any development of the peaceful settlement process. This is exactly what the UK is doing."
- The UK is participating in the war against Russia on the side of the Kiev regime: "Britain is participating in this war. It is participating in this war on the side of the Kiev regime."
Russian Armed Forces’s successes- The Russian Armed Forces are working to identify production sites for missiles and other equipment for the Ukrainian military and are taking measures to destroy these facilities: "Our armed forces are carrying out the necessary work, gathering relevant data to identify the production sites of such missiles and other military equipment, and are taking measures to destroy these facilities."
