ASTANA, August 23. /TASS/. Five parties are garnering more than 5% of votes needed to win seats in Kazakhstan’s new unicameral parliament (Kurultai), with the largest Adilet party scoring more than 70% of votes, according to the results of three exit polls.

Thus, according to the poll conducted by the SOCIS-A private fund and released by the Zakon.kz media outlet, Adilet is receiving 70.7% of votes. It is followed by Auyl with 6.4%, Respublica with 5.5%, Aq Jol with 5.4%, and the Nationwide Social Democratic Party (NSDP) with 5%. The People’s Party, which had seats in the previous parliament, is failing to surpass the threshold with 3.2% of votes. The Baytaq party can count on 1.2% of votes and is failing to make it to the new parliament either. As many as 2.6% of the polled said they had voted against all parties.

The results of the exit poll conducted by the Institute of Eurasian Integration that were reported by the Khabar 24 television channel indicate that Adilet has 71.8% of votes, Auyl - 6.4%, Respublica - 5.4%, NSDP - 5.2%, Aq Jol - 5.1%, the People’s Party - 3%, Baytaq - 1%, with the last two failing to win seats in parliament. As many as 2.1% said they had voted against all.

According to the results of the poll conducted by the Institute of Public Development that were released by Channel 7, Adilet won 72.3% of votes, Auyl - 6.2%, Respublica - 5.2%, Aq Jol - 5.1%, NSDP - 5%. The People’s Party and Baytaq are failing to surpass the 5% threshold with 2.8% and 0.9%, respectively. As many as 2.5% said they had voted against all.

Kazakhstan held elections to its new unicameral parliament on Sunday under the country’s new constitution that was approved at the March 15 referendum. Seven parties, which nominated 545 candidates, vied for 145 seats in the new parliament. Elections were held solely by party tickets. There is no voter turnout threshold. Kazakhstan has 12.6 million eligible voters. More than 10,000 polling stations were open for voting, including 79 outside the country. The voter turnout, according to the Central Election Commission’s preliminary data, was 74.19%. A number of overseas polling stations are still open, with the last of them being closed in the United States by morning on August 24.
