The U.S. Department of Defense and Congress are increasingly focused on biomanufacturing as a strategic capability—one that can strengthen supply chains and enable the production of critical products like food, fuel, and advanced materials.
ETI and the Good Food Institute are excited to host a half-day event in Arlington, VA exploring how food biotechnology and food-grade biomanufacturing capacity can support this mission. Attendees will also have the opportunity to sample biomanufactured food products during an in-person tasting.
This event will connect food and biomanufacturing companies with government leaders and defense stakeholders to discuss:
Why DOD is increasingly interested in food biotechnology and biomanufacturing
How food-grade biomanufacturing infrastructure can serve dual-use national security needs
What kinds of products, capabilities, and partnerships the government is seeking
Defense-specific use cases for food biotechnology
Policy opportunities to advance U.S. leadership in biomanufacturing
Practical ways companies can begin engaging with DOD
Fermentation companies, biomanufacturing startups, small businesses, and commercial innovators are encouraged to attend—especially those interested in partnering with the government.
Speakers will include:
Virtual remarks from Senator Alex Padilla of California, Commissioner on the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology
Mr. Jon Bateman, Senior Fellow and Co-Director, Technology and International Affairs Program
Dr. Juan B. García Martínez, Research Manager, ALLFED
Ms. Nicole Favreau Farhadi, Research Lead, U.S. Army DEVCOM
Mr. Nathan Dinh, Senior Policy Advisor at the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology (NSCEB)
