The Chattanooga Regents Council recently presented the The American Revolution: An Intimate History by Ken Burns, along with the complete accompanying DVD set, to the downtown branch of the Chattanooga Public Library. This donation was made possible through funding from the Tennessee Society Daughters of the American Revolution (TSDAR) and a grant from Tennessee America 250, an initiative of the Tennessee Commission for the United States Semiquincentennial.
"The donation serves as a cornerstone for local celebrations leading up to the nation’s 250th anniversary," officials said.
"The Regents Council made this donation to the Chattanooga Public Library in the hope that these resources will encourage our citizens to study the devotion of our ancestors and inspire a renewed spirit of service. The Regents Council previously presented the Patriots to Pioneers: The First Tennessee Volunteers, as well as Legacies of our Great-Grandmothers to the Chattanooga Public Library. Together these resources tell the story of the tumultuous years when the fervor of liberty clashed with the British Empire, and Tennessee’s early settlers carved out their destinies on a changing frontier.
"The Tennessee Society Daughters of the American Revolution is comprised of 95 chapters across the state. Members are dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education and patriotism within their local communities. The Regents Council currently includes the following five chapters: Chief John Ross, Chickamauga, Judge David Campbell, Nancy Ward and Moccasin Bend."
