Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invite the public to participate in a special one-hour, ranger-led program, "What Makes A Mountain" on June 27 at 2 p.m. This program examines the forces that created the mountains and ridges that make up the Tennessee River Valley. 

The program will be inside Point Park on top of Lookout Mountain. The entrance fee of $10 applies for persons 16 and older, 15 and younger are free. The entrance fee is waived for those that have the America the Beautiful Pass, along with three other adults.

Officials said, "The mountains and ridges around Chattanooga, such as Lookout Mountain and Walden Ridge, are at the southern end of the Cumberland Plateau, stretching from West Virginia to Alabama.

The rocks that now form the cap of the Cumberland Plateau were laid down in a ancient shallow sea over 350 million years ago. Because of the sheer vastness and resources, the region has a long and distinct history attached to it.  Come and learn more about the geology of this region that has provided so much to our nation’s story."
