I've pre-ordered GTA VI, and I can already hear the knuckle draggers already:
"Huh duh, why would you pre-order a digital game?!"
I don't normally pre-order games, and I certainly don't pre-order digital games, so normally I'd agree with you. But for GTA VI I think it's going to be a good idea.
Come launch day what do you think is going to happen? Do you really think everything is going to go smoothly? Or do you think the PlayStation Store is going to buckle under the weight of around 30 million people all logging in at the same time, trying to all buy the same game?
If I was a betting man I'd bet that the PSN and the CDN servers are going to have a complete meltdown on GTA VI release day.
So I pre-ordered the digital game just so I can pre-download it a few days before, thus avoiding the mass server melt down as the game will already be on my Hard Drive.

@dodgykebaab Honestly I see the internet in some areas completely blacking out due to sheer amount of people downloading the game.

Knuckle draggers, just because they disagree with you...? Hmm..
Sure, if you're getting it and want to pre-load a few days early, it makes sense. But it's not out for another 3+ months, is it. More power to you if you want to spend your money this early, though. Genuinely.
@kyleforrester87 honestly, you get people on both sides of such trivial stuff being so divided. While in the middle we just think, buy it or don't, it genuienly doesn't matter in any way at all 😭 these things surely don't define us as people, do they? But, of course, the culture war has wrecked everyone's mind, and now every single thing has to be for or against the 'completely crazy other-side'
I know without looking there will be 5-10 comments on the article saying it is "literally stupid to pre-order a game you want and people must have IQs of around 49 to even consider taking such a vile, offensive act towards me" And this is, I guess, the response to that type of thing 🤷♂️😅
I love a good bit of exaggeration for effect, but it is genuinely every day on every article about everything that people go and plant their flag for their comment-section cause now.

Enough to make a fella go crazy.

@dodgykebaab If it's your money, spend it how and where you want. Don't fall into thinking you need to justify it to others. Rockstar were (from what it sounds like?) going to get it either way so I don't see an issue with it. A game that's been in development that long won't be any different depending on pre-order statistics, the studio is too big fail. With certain other games? sure pre-orders could make a studio feel lazy and cut corners or 'we'll fix it later', but we're talking about a company that made horses anatomy change by temperature. I think they know what they are doing and you're right, downloading in advance makes sense.
I'm just searching for that something, hype? to want to buy/play it, hopefully this new footage helps. I'd like to be on the same page as everyone else, sharing in that something, I avoid most modern titles, this is one I should want to play day one. For some reason I'm not there yet. HyenaSocks said the same thing, it helps to be patient and I'd rather play it because I want to, not because everyone else is. If I can blend the two then great it will be a game I enjoy and there will be the option to follow along, discuss the game, I hope that's the case.

@GirlVersusGame I still know what you mean about that. I have this weird reservation, somewhere. But the style and vibe is enough, for me, even if there are parts I like less (like in GTA 5, I definitely didn't love everything, but it was still a monumental gaming event that far exceeded a lot of other games or media)
But yesterday I saw two old clips I made of RDR2 and thought, oh yeah, that is why I get rockstar games, and my hype increased again, so here are the clips, in .gif form to see if you get that feeling, too.
Man on horse is shot, falls, gets dragged by the leg, but then gets stuck in some deep mud by the river/swamp

Man is sat minding his own business and is suddenly lassooed from a moving train by a sadistic outlaw who is out to cause trouble

We sometimes have to remind ourselves that GTA 5 is not their last game, RDR2 is their last game, and it is insanely, insanely good and ridiculously detailed. And for that alone, it will be a fun to be part of. And like you say about the details... the horse shrinkage... well, it was absolutely... nuts 😭😂 the pun was unintended, but unavoidable. It is just levels of detail no other game can even consider.

@Ravix The last mission of RDR2 is the literal definition of peak, the only thing I wished R* moved away from is having sprint as mash X.... like please, at least GTA you have to mash sprint to make the car go faster 😅

@Ravix They really do pioneer (pun intended) and lead the way in that kind of natural/outside the box thinking. It's a game I think about revisiting now and then. Mainly because like I said before I played it differently, it was a lot like my approach with Kingdom Come Deliverance. Riding through the countryside picking flowers and just being in it. I didn't understand why you kept telling me to play it (for months) until I was in the game and living it. It was more than just a distraction, it was an experience, one that I'm really grateful to have gone through. It was really peaceful, when certain things weren't. Which is why so many people do game, I keep seeing examples of that, like yesterday and that man saying his baby was born ill and at the end of the day it was a game that helped him keep it together. You and I had the same conversation about music, it's not all that different.
Red Dead Redemption 2 was a little different. I know there was a story there, I can't tell you what it was. Rockstar have made some great and evolutionary games and gone places other studios haven't, sometimes due to budget or technical limitations. Something did click when I saw those cases of employee abuse, I didn't know that could happen in a hobby I supported. It was like those early UAE/EA reports some (months?) ago. It was very close to home and I got torn apart in the comments section for spending so much time in that region and being so unaware of certain things, how when no one shows or tells you? I think it bled into how I see companies like Rockstar. It was liking waking up into a blur.
It's going to be hard to understand but if you didn't know greed existed in something, that same something was an escape to get away from that same mindset/attitude, then within the space of a couple of months find out that yes it can (other studios too) it changes your perspective. If you take the moral high-ground it becomes like to preach but that ruins it for everyone else, at the same time it's hard to ignore when it's something you as a person do register and find hard to ignore. You don't surface much in the comments, do you think the news itself can do that to a person? be brutally honest if you need to be. And even better can you recommend some kind of way to unsee it, or neutralize that something because I do want to experience video-games like I once did, obviously I can't ask offline.
Rockstar will make bank either-way, I think it's the additional move towards unnecessary greed that soured some of that. I do recognize it from somewhere else, then I see Developers like No Man's Sky who provide content over and over again, they are grateful for their players. I don't think the word gratitude exists in Rockstar or Take-Two's vocabulary. If there was some kind of balance it would be easier to like them, they even paywalled some footage behind Netflix. It's temporary, their attitude isn't.
You'd think if Kebab (up yonder) pre-orders the game today then they should be given some kind of link/bar through that same confirmation that can be used only on that machine/account but leads directly to that same footage. I'm not trying to hijack Kebab's thread, it just seems like there could be another way to do it, and instead it's Netflix. It's a blending of platforms and it feels kind of uncomfortable honestly. If I pick up the Grand Theft Auto 3 box, take the disc out and look at it, that game is localized, it's just a game, sure it has it's own soundtrack and voice-acting but I like that it ends there. Mixing platforms just feels weird. Why can't a game just be about a game? you are lucky because you and a lot of people have experienced that side of Playstation. There's a meme I was shown of a man with a pizza walking into a room, it's in chaos, fire/etc, that's sort of how it felt when finding a normal Playstation community and it surely wasn't always like that. I know some of it is 'if it bleeds it leads', but it shouldn't be bleeding in the first place and if it is then something is really wrong.
I'm hoping that game footage reignites something, it's not a good way to view the industry. My friend said it's a good example of how overwhelming it can be to learn about the actual outside world, there's those bite-sized chunks, and that GoodNews site, it's not disorientating, some of the gaming news currently is and it's hard to not feeling something for people who lost their jobs, or people who will be priced out of their hobby, or locked out due to regional coverage/restrictions. Do you think I should pullback from the news part of things for a while? I like talking to people but sometimes it feels like doing it in the eye of a storm and if I shift a couple of feet to the right or left I'll be swept up and lost in something I know I don't understand, and the parts that I do loop back into greed again.

I see you cut off before the third paragraph. Ironically the knuckle dragger comment was actually referencing people who only read a headline and miss out the context!

Also the benefit to me is that I have a family and normally around that time of year you spend your money on Xmas presents and all the other things you need to buy around Christmas.
Then the benefit of pre-ordering now so that come November when money gets tighter, you are not forking out for GTA 6.
Yes, some of us are not rich/have a wife & kids and have to plan their spending.

@dodgykebaab yeah that’s fair enough. Equally some people with families and tight incomes might rather hold that £60 until you can preload it, just in case. Horses for courses and all that. Enjoy it anyway!
I pre-ordered the £89.99 digital ultimate edition and don't care what other people think.

I don't think anyone who wants the game is going to wait until the actual release date to buy and download it. Even the 'physical' copies can be collected a week in advance to download early.

@dodgykebaab you want the game and pre-ordered it... good. Don't let anyone bully you into feeling bad about it. Do what you want with your wallet, and let the others do what they want with theirs. Personally I'm waiting for the Netflix reveal to pre-order

@Ravix I have fond memories of picking up my launch day copy of RDR2 at GameStop. They had a whole event where there was raffles, games, giveaways and then as the hour grew near, we drew numbers to see the order of the line to get our copy of the game. Such a great memory. Almost as good as the release day events we used to have for the Harry Potter books.
Gone are the days of physically going to the store to attend a launch event and relish in the hype with all the other people who crawled out from under rocks and emerged from basements to actually be a community with a common conviction, shared leisure activity ideals, and to meet and see others of our own kind.
I feel like my mindset is similar to a person who’s lost a loved one or who’s had a heart-wrenching breakup and everything they see reminds them of the one they lost — every bit of gaming news finds a way to make me mourn the loss of physical discs. 😅

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
Is it totally logical to not pre-order a product that is limitless in quantity straight out the gate? Yes
Do I normally adhere to logic? I actively try to.
Did I go against my answers to both of the questions above in this instance? Yes… with ****ing bells on! 😎

@psmr since discussing this in depth elsewhere I’ve found that’s it’s highly probable that we could be looking at the same game in totally different ways.
I have a gaming WhatsApp group of about 12 friends whom I’ve known since school for over 25 years.
People share screenshots of the games they are on and generally talk ***** and make jokes about them.
A lot of the time we are on different games, but the times when everyone is on the same game is incredible and then the group chat is just as entertaining as the game!
GTA VI will be one of those times when at launch everyone on the group will be on the same game at the same time, so to someone in my position there is extra value in getting the game at launch.

@dodgykebaab considering we’re both in the minority that did pre-order it (within these circles anyway), I reckon we’re looking at it pretty similarly tbh

@GirlVersusGame honestly, I think when I read gaming news more, I enjoy gaming less. So, yeah that probably is a good idea if you feel that way, too. I know i'd rather just talk about gaming in a fun way most of the time, because that is what gaming is for, right? Seeing the art as the art and as nothing else is always a good thing. And the writers and the developers are the ones who make it, it is their work we get to experience as a player, not the executives. Sometimes the technical stuff interests me, but all the ins and outs of the business and peoples reaction to every little thing? I don't think I ever needed these things taking up room my mind, and before I joined here I never even considered these things. Hence mostly just messing around on the forum now.
Of course, I personally would prefer if the world functioned in a different way overall, and that would include rewarding those with the skill and talent and passion, and not just people that are good at bullying and squeezing every last drop out of people, or a world where everyone isn't making every single difference of opinion an argument, but it tends to not be like that so I can't be sat here worrying about the world from a position where I cannot change that. The same goes for regular news, I can't help everyone, or change these things that happen, so isn't that healthy for my own wellbeing to constantly remind myself of these things. Social media is the same, I think people just scroll bad news and angry opinions endlessly and it hurts them more than they realise and then they either go mad or join in (also mad) and social media is also what the comments sections can resemble these days. That is a condensed version, anyway (condensed for us 😂) Hopefully though it makes sense. It is up to you, but I think avoiding some stuff might be good.
