How One Developer and Claude AI Built a Native macOS Driver for HP’s Windows-Only Laser Printer

Developer Kuber Mehta used Anthropic's Claude Code to create a native macOS driver for the HP Laser 1008a, a Windows-only SPL3 printer with no official Apple support. After four hours of prompts the solution evolved from a Linux container to a patched SpliX filter with native IOKit USB handling. It now prints via Cmd-P from any app and is available open source on GitHub.
