These sketches do not necessarily mean that Samsung will use this design for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. Indications from the supply chain a few weeks ago suggested that, at least as of early July, Samsung had not yet made a final decision on a redesign. That may have changed in the meantime. The well-known leaker Ice Universe, who also shared the presumably AI-generated image at the top of this article, is emphasizing that he wouldn’t object to such a design change for the Galaxy S27 camera.

In fact, this presents Samsung with an opportunity to eliminate some of the drawbacks of the current design. For example, a horizontal camera would finally allow for stable writing or typing on a table, making that unsightly wobble a thing of the past. It would also free up more space on the back for Qi2-compatible accessories, potentially enabling magnetic support without a case, as seen on the Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro, for instance. Last but not least, the design change could also signal a fresh new start for the camera, which has hardly changed in recent years but is expected to bring some innovations in 2027, such as a new main camera.
