It appears Xring O3 could be built on the same process as Xring O1.Xring O1 launched in May last year as Xiaomi's first truly premium chipset. A successor, widely expected to be branded as Xring O3, is slated for imminent release, and more information on it has now been revealed.
September is set to be a significant month for smartphone silicon. Apple, MediaTek, and Qualcomm are all scheduled to present their next-gen flagship chipsets, and new information indicates Xiaomi could be set to follow suit with its Xring O3.
As shared by company executive Lu Weibing, Xiaomi is preparing for a massive launch event in China next month. As has been widely reported, the Xiaomi 18 series is expected to debut at that event, featuring Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset. Word on the grapevine suggests Xring O3 could debut at that event too, though it wouldn't be shocking if the chipset got its own presentation at a different date.
According to Experience More, Xring O3 is billed for an imminent release, with development and testing now concluded. The leaker, however, claims that Xring will not be built on a 2nm node like its rivals from Apple, Qualcomm, and MediaTek. More interestingly, it's claimed that the chipset will not be built on TSMC's N3P node—which underpins the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and current-gen flagship chipsets—either. That effectively limits it to the same N3E process Xring O1 was built on.
If all of that holds true, it's unlikely that Xring O3 delivers a qualitative upgrade relative to Xring O1 before it. Supposedly, however, the chipset is intended to be benchmarked against the Apple A19 Pro, which would make it a touch less powerful than the imminent slew of flagship SoCs but still a solid improvement over its predecessor, and leagues more capable than a chipset like Google's Tensor G6.
