Tuned 2.28 released this Saturday as the newest version of Red Hat's tuning profile delivery mechanism for Linux. Tuned is used notably out-of-the-box on Fedora Linux for monitoring and adaptively tuning systems.

One of the notable changes with Tuned 2.28 is that it should provide better WiFi power-savings out-of-the-box now on the likes of Fedora Linux. Since last year has been this bug report over Tuned attempting to use iwpriv by default for enabling WiFi power-savings. But Fedora no longer carries the iwpriv package and thus now losing out on WiFi power-savings in out-of-the-box configurations. With Tuned 2.28, this change switches the WiFi power management handling to just using iw and that also now being an RPM build dependency for Tuned. The iwpriv support is retained for legacy purposes but long story short this change should now ensure modern systems on Fedora and the like will enjoy the out-of-the-box WiFi power savings.

Another change is for the network-latency profile to change the AVC cache threshold to 8192. On RHEL9 and RHEL10 the default setting is 512 and is observed to cause latency spikes for networking workloads.

Tuned 2.28 also delivers on improved error messages, additional build documentation, systemd integration changes, more network coalescing options, and other changes.
