Starting this month, some Walmart and Sam’s Club locations will begin accepting mobile payments at checkout counters across the United States.

Walmart said all Walmart and Sam’s Club stores will offer tap-to-pay options by the end of the year. The company said all of its gas stations will offer the option by the middle of next year.

Customers will be able to use contactless payment methods, including credit cards, phones and smartwatches, at checkout.

Walmart has long offered its own mobile payment option through the Walmart app, which requires customers to enter credit card information into the app.

The company said Walmart Pay will remain available for customers.

“Tap to Pay gives customers and members another familiar and convenient way to pay at checkout using contactless payment methods,” Walmart said in a statement. “Whether picking up groceries, gifts or everyday essentials, they can check out using eligible contactless cards, phones or smartwatches.”
