The rollout of the stable One UI 8.5 update has triggered significant frustration among Samsung Galaxy S25 users. Despite months of marketing positioning the update as a milestone for the “Galaxy AI” ecosystem, the final release reportedly lacks several key features currently exclusive to the newer Galaxy S26 series.

The most vocal critics are former beta testers who noted that several functionalities, which performed reliably during the testing phase, were omitted from the stable build. This has led to accusations on Samsung’s community forums of “controlled downgrading”—a strategy allegedly designed to safeguard the Galaxy S26’s market exclusivity by artificially limiting its predecessors.

Users have documented a list of blocked or removed tools in the Samsung Members forums, including:

• Now Nudge: Real-time proactive assistance.
• Ask AI: Integrated browsing assistance within the Samsung Internet app.
• 24MP Camera Mode: A highly anticipated photography optimization.
• Advanced Bixby: The revamped voice assistant featuring Perplexity integration.

Samsung typically cites hardware optimization or thermal constraints as reasons for feature limitations. However, users argue these justifications are inconsistent. Critics point out that the new Bixby features function on Galaxy Book models with lower technical specifications than the S25. Furthermore, since performance gaps between Snapdragon and Exynos chipsets have narrowed, many believe the S25 hardware is more than capable of handling these AI tasks.

This controversy raises questions regarding Samsung’s commitment to providing seven years of Android updates. While the version numbers may increase, consumers expect flagship devices to receive flagship features for at least the first two years of their lifecycle.

Samsung has not yet officially commented on the omissions. However, there is speculation that the missing tools could be reintroduced with One UI 9.0, which is currently under development, potentially resolving the feature gap between the two generations.
