Piers Morgan has mocked Mikel Arteta's decision to start Kai Havertz up front for Arsenal's huge clash with Liverpool at The Emirates.

The Gunners boss was forced into the change after he revealed that Gabriel Jesus was not fit enough to make the squad for Sunday's game.

The Brazilian suffered a knock in training linked to his previous knee issue and led Arteta into a rethink over who to pick in attack for the clash title Arsenal's title rivals.

Instead of swapping like-for-like and picking Eddie Nketiah in place of the Arsenal number nine, the Spanish boss plumped for Havertz as the focal point of the team's attack.

The decision surprised many Gunners fans, and in particular TV presenter Morgan who made his feelings clear with a post on X

Piers Morgan has mocked Mikel Arteta's team line-up in a message aimed at Kai Havertz

Morgan posted to social media question the decision to including Kai Havertz in the team

Quote posting the Gunners line-up announcement, Morgan sent a damming message to his account aimed at the German, stating: 'Havertz does what? He can’t lead a Morris dance.'

Havertz has struggled to make an impact at The Emirates following his £65million move across the capital in the summer

The German has scored just five times in 31 games for the club, and been deployed in a number of positions as Arteta looks for the best to accommodate the former Chelsea player.

Gabriel Jesus suffered a knock in training which ruled him out the game against Liverpool

Mikel Arteta was forced to make a change to his attack following an injury to Gabriel Jesus

It's not the first time Morgan has singled out Havertz. Earlier in the season, the 58-year-old criticised the player following a win over Nottingham Forest.

Posting a review of the game on social media and pinpointing Havertz's performance by saying:'I’ll take the win, but that was a poor 2nd half by Arsenal and I don’t understand why Forest had more desire/intensity than we did as the game went on. Nor do I understand what Havertz gives us.'

Havertz went some way into making Morgan eat his words, by having a hand in Arsenal's opening goal. His shot was blocked by Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson before Bukayo Saka put in the rebound.
