Mikel Arteta has revealed that Arsenal are 'actively looking' for a striker to fill the void left by injured forwards Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus as his side look to stay the course in the title race.

The Gunners recovered from a goal down against Tottenham on Wednesday night to beat their North London rivals 2-1 thanks to Leandro Trossard's winner.

It was just the tonic Arteta needed after a tough week which had seen his side fall to first-leg defeat by Newcastle in the League Cup, crash out of the FA Cup to Man United and lose Gabriel Jesus to long-term injury - just as the Brazil striker was finding his scoring boots.

Jesus' injury has further reduced Arsenal's attacking options after the loss of Saka to a hamstring injury last month.

But, speaking after a victory over Spurs which cut Liverpool's lead over them at the top of the Premier League table to four points, Arteta offered hope to Arsenal fans by revealing that he is seeking reinforcements for a title push.

When asked on TNT Sports by Rio Ferdinand if Arsenal would try to buy a striker in January, the Gunners boss said:  'Yes for sure because we lost two big players - Bukayo could be out for three months and Gabby is going to be out for a long time too.

Gabriel Jesus was in fine form before he picked up an ACL injury in the FA Cup third round

Bukayo Saka has undergone surgery on his hamstring and will be out for another three months

'We are going to try for sure. We are actively looking.

'We have lost two very important players, we have 14 players in the squad and we play every three days. So, we will try and let's see what we can get.'

The Spaniard will have to fit any transfer deals around a hectic schedule of six games in 20 days.

Arsenal next host Aston Villa in the league on Saturday before a Champions League clash at the Emirates the following Wednesday.
