Eamonn Holmes's GB News replacement Stephen Dixon has had to take time off work after 'crashing'.

Stephen, 52, had taken Eamonn's place on the breakfast show while the presenter recovers from a stroke he suffered back in April.

Stephen, who suffers from Type 1 diabetes, will take the rest of the week off.

A statement released by his husband Daniel on Stephen's Instagram read: 'As many know, Stephen has lived with T1 Diabetes since the age of 17.

'He's been a workaholic for 35 years, spending 25+ of them on the 3am–10am shift, but he has finally crashed.

'For the first time ever at 50, he's on his first sick note. GB News have been incredibly supportive. He just needs a bit of time to get through this and will be back next week.'

Type 1 diabetes is where the body's immune system attacks and destroys the cells that produce insulin.

Symptoms include frequent urination, extreme thirst, feeling tired and weight loss.

Stephen is one of a number of presenters who have stepped in to present the breakfast show as Eamonn focuses on his health.

Stephen spoke about living with diabetes back in 2023. He wrote: 'As much as my specialists’ marvel at how well controlled I am and, to be honest, heap praise on me when I’m being checked out, 31 years in and I am tired.

'It is a constant drain. Always checking, always monitoring, always calculating. Sometimes it does just get you down.

'Sometimes I would just love a pizza without worrying that I’m going to feel ill for 24 hours after, I’d love to indulge over Christmas without the same concerns.

'Or I’d like to go for a walk, or a swim without worrying that my glucose levels will crash through the floor making me feel like I’m about to peg out.

'I have mentored lots of young people over the years, tried to dispel their concerns over what their futures hold, and I’ve done with the very best of intentions, but for the first time ever, I get a sense of their despair.'

Father-of-four Eamonn, 66, had been absent from his GB News breakfast show, which he co-hosts with Ellie Costello, since March 11.

Father-of-four Eamonn, 66, had been absent from his GB News breakfast show, which he co-hosts with Ellie Costello, since March 11. He suffered a stroke in April

On that date he appeared to fall asleep live on air, before playing with his microphone and mobile phone as colleagues and viewers looked on in astonishment.

He was rushed to A&E after suffering a stroke just days before he was due back on air presenting GB News in April  A GB News spokesman said at the time: 'Eamonn was taken ill and it was later confirmed he had suffered a stroke. He is currently responding well to treatment.

'Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better. His colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the People's Channel when he is ready to return.'

In the UK about 90 per cent of diabetic adults have Type 2 diabetes

Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person's blood sugar level to become too high.

There are two main types of diabetes:

- Type 1, where the body's immune system attacks and destroys the cells that produce insulin.

- Type 2, where the body does not produce enough insulin, or the body's cells do not react to insulin.

Type 2 diabetes is far more common than Type 1.

In the UK, around 90% of all adults with diabetes have Type 2.

Reducing the risk of Type 2 diabetes can be achieved through healthy eating, regular exercise and achieving a healthy body weight.

The main symptoms of diabetes include: feeling very thirsty, urinating more frequently (particularly at night), feeling very tired, weight loss, and loss of muscle bulk.
