Fans have praised Bras N Things for featuring an average-sized woman such as Barber rather than a size 6 model, heralding the decision as a win for the body-positivity movement

Outspoken media personality Rosie Waterland has accused comedian Celeste Barber of spreading a 'problematic body image message' with her new Bras N Things lingerie campaign.

Barber, 39, was unveiled as Bras N Things' new poster girl this week, releasing her own limited-edition underwear range and starring in a glossy photo shoot.

Fans have praised the brand for featuring an average-sized woman such as Barber rather than a size 6 model, heralding the decision as a win for the body-positivity movement.

But Waterland, 35, didn't share the same enthusiasm, saying Barber's new range wasn't inclusive because it 'only goes up to size 20'.

The former Mamamia journalist tweeted on Tuesday: 'Lol at doing an interview saying your whole thing is about 'breaking down traditional beauty standards' but that interview is you promoting your underwear line that only goes up to size 20.'

In a second tweet, which she later deleted, she wrote: 'I honestly think people are scared to say who this is, and I get it - I once said something very reasonable and innocuous about her problematic body message and it was the only time I've ever been hounded off Instagram in my life.'

While Waterland did not name Barber, it's clear she was referring to the comedian.

Barber has received widespread media attention this week for her commentary on 'beauty standards' and is also promoting a new underwear line.

Her Bras N Things collection ranges between size 2 and 20, with bras going up to an F cup, which is a typical size range for most high-street lingerie brands.

Bras N Things head of marketing, Natalie Chalmers, described Barber as 'the ultimate confidence warrior who doesn't take herself too seriously and, like all of us, has many sides to her'.

Speaking to Yahoo at a pre-launch event for the collection, Barber said promoting inclusivity in the fashion industry was one of her priorities

'Bras N Things has been undergoing a brand evolution for the past two years and a central part of that is how we support women to confidently be themselves as we build our global community of confidence warriors,' Ms Chalmers added.

Speaking to Yahoo at a pre-launch event for the collection, Barber said promoting inclusivity in the fashion industry was one of her priorities.

'That's what I do, I poke fun at things that don't include everyone,' she said.

Barber, who is known for parodying celebrities like Kylie Jenner and Emily Ratajkowski on Instagram, has previously admitted to having a love-hate relationship with body-positivity activists.

She told Vogue in 2019: 'I know I'm playing a role in the body-positivity movement that's happening now, and I love that.'

'Mind you, people get furious with me on Instagram if they think I've lost weight. They say, "It's not funny anymore, you look too good." F**k off! You can be hot and funny, just watch me.

'Funny and hot, smart and pretty, are not oil and water for women. We're complex: we don't have to be one thing or the other.'
