The month of June is an interesting period in Sri Lanka as it marks the southwest monsoon season. As some areas receive rainfall and humidity, other areas remain sunny and perfect for tourists to visit. It presents an exciting opportunity to visit the island country if everything is planned accordingly. June presents a number of benefits and risks associated with visiting the Sri Lankan destination.

Weather & Regional Differences

The climate in Sri Lanka during June changes depending on the location. The west and southern coasts, as well as the mountainous regions, experience many instances of rain showers, cloudy skies, and high temperatures. The eastern coast is quite dry and has sunny weather, which makes it a better option for visiting beaches. It is warm all over the island, with temperatures ranging between 26 and 30 degrees Celsius.

Wildlife Safaris in Yala

June is still an ideal month for nature lovers who want to explore places such as Yala National Park. Since vegetation is more abundant during this period, animals can become hard to spot. However, travellers will have the chance to encounter a variety of wild animals, including elephants, crocodiles, and leopards. Travellers should plan early morning safaris since it is relatively cool at that time. It is advisable to stay in hotels near Yala, Sri Lanka.

Pilgrimage and Kataragama Visits

The month of June also holds significance for religious tourism since it is a very popular pilgrimage destination in Kataragama. The pilgrims who come here from all over the country add to the cultural flavour of the place with their rituals in the temple. At times, accommodation becomes difficult to find owing to the rush of pilgrims, and it is best if one makes advance bookings. Mandara Rosen Kataragama Sri Lanka, is one of the most popular destinations.

Packing wisely will be crucial if you plan on travelling to Sri Lanka in June. Light clothing, waterproof clothes, and appropriate shoes are necessary because of the unexpected rains and muddy trails. Delays are common in the countryside, so it would be best to be flexible with your schedule. It would be wise to bring insect repellent, particularly if you’re going to areas where there are forests and swamps.
