Lorraine Kelly has said she feels like she is getting a second chance at motherhood as she opened up about being a grandma.

The legendary TV presenter's only child Rosie welcomed her first daughter with her fiancé Steve White in August 2024 and the family are gearing up for their second Christmas together.

Lorraine and her husband Steve Smith have recently moved just six minutes away from their daughter's family, and the legendary broadcaster admitted she is 'getting a chance to be a mum again' after the challenges of raising Rosie while she was working.

Speaking about being a grandma to The Daily Mail as part of EE broadband's Christmas Campaign, Lorraine said: 'It's great. To be honest with you, I'm getting a chance to be a mum again in a way.

'I'm not being a mum again because [Rosie's] her mum and she's got her mum, but I'm getting a chance to do it again and hopefully to do it better.'

Reflecting on juggling motherhood and her career she explained: 'Because when I had Rosie I was in my 30s, I think I was 34 and I was working and it's always harder if you're the mother.'

Lorraine Kelly has confessed being a grandma is her 'second chance at being a mum' as she reflected on the difficulties of juggling motherhood with her career

Reflecting on Rosie's childhood she explained: 'Because when I had Rosie I was in my 30s, I think I was 34 and I was working and it's always harder if you're the mother' (pictured in 1998)

Praising her daughter she continued: 'I think you're amazing. She's incredible, absolutely incredible. I don't know how you do everything that you do, but it's lovely when it's your grandchild because you read those books that you read yourself.

'It's just lovely, and she's a wee lamb. She's a credit to you. She's an absolute angel.'

Lorraine also weighed in on the change in attitude to working mums and pregnancy as she explained how it used to be taboo to see pregnant women on TV.

'Back then that would have been 1993/94 when I was pregnant, it still was quite unusual for pregnant women to be on television, especially every day and especially live television.

'It wasn't as frowned upon as it was in the 80s. I mean, I do remember the real trailblazer was Anne Diamond, because Anne was sitting on the sofa pregnant and she made it easier for all the rest of us to follow behind her.'

On Monday night Sienna Miller and Ellie Goulding stole the show at the Fashion Awards as they both took to the red carpet to announce their pregnancies.

And Lorraine gave her take on their looks as she added: 'I think now of course there were those fashion awards the other day and you saw women, beautiful women showing their bumps.

'Sienna Miller wearing the most lovely see-through comfortable but very elegant and actually very sexy dress she looked incredible.

The presenter told the Daily Mail: 'I'm not being a mum again because [Rosie's] her mum and she's got her mum, but I'm getting a chance to do it again and to do it hopefully to do it better' (Lorraine and her mum Anne pictured with Rosie and baby Billie in March)

'Yeah attitudes have definitely changed and so they should, because being pregnant and being a mother is an amazing thing. It's wonderful and it should be celebrated.

'I think we should always remember what a tough job it is too. I'm in awe of anybody that can bring up their children, it's not easy, and I get the absolutely best of it when it comes to Billie because I just get to kind of babysit.'

This year Lorraine and her husband will be spending Christmas day with Rosie, her fiancé and Billie.

Like Brits who are planning for multiple Christmas' with various family members this year, Rosie shared: 'We're going to have Christmas morning at our house and then we're going to walk to you [Lorraine's] and have Christmas there.

'Then on Boxing Day we're going to go to my Steve's family, at Whitely, which will be lovely and then we'll be back. We're doing two Christmases really.'

With over half of Brits claiming that a strong broadband and mobile connection is as important as a working oven this Christmas, Rosie will be using EE’s mobile network to get from place to place, and keeping the family updated on all the festive moments via video calls and messages.

Lorraine said: 'When we are the hosts, our EE broadband keeps the house feeling alive, with music on, a festive film streaming and video calls with friends and family in Scotland and all over the world'

Speaking about the importance of staying connected at Christmas Lorraine added: 'Christmas is all about connecting with family and friends and keeping in touch.

'I’m lucky enough to live near Rosie, Steve and baby Billie, and we will all be together on Christmas Day, but all doing our own thing for the rest of the holidays.

'When we are the hosts, our EE broadband keeps the house feeling alive, with music on, a festive film streaming and video calls with friends and family in Scotland and all over the world.

'It’s a vital way to connect with my brother in Singapore, my cousins in Germany and friends in America and Canada. Those moments, whether shared in person or on screen, make everything feel warm and connected.'

Lorraine Kelly and Rosie Smith have teamed up with EE to share a glimpse into their Christmas plans and how they are using EE’s broadband and mobile network to make things run smoother.

It follows new research that found Brits are preparing for as many as three Christmas Days this year, with families travelling between multiple homes to see everyone they love. Find out more and watch the Christmas campaign in full at the EE website.
