LG Display’s Concept Car demo at SID Display Week 2026 began on the outside, where the 29-inch Outdoor LTPS LCD demonstrated how displays could become part of a vehicle’s communication system, not just its infotainment setup.

29-inch Outdoor LTPS LCD

Positioned at the back of the concept car, the screen is designed for V2X (Vehicle-to-everything) communication between the vehicle and its surroundings, potentially showing signals or information to pedestrians, nearby drivers, or other road users. LG Display rates this panel at 5,000 nits, which is critical because an exterior automotive display has to remain visible in bright daylight. Besides ultra-high brightness, this 2880 x 540, 48:9 display features a 4000R curvature, helping it better match the exterior shape of the vehicle while keeping information readable from outside.

LG Display  57-inch P2P Oxide LCD, touted as the world’s largest panel of its kind

From the side, before stepping into the concept car, I could see the star of the demo, the LG Display  57-inch P2P Oxide LCD, a huge pillar-to-pillar screen stretching across the front of the vehicle. LG Display touted it as the world’s largest panel of its kind, and it is easy to understand why it anchors the whole concept. Instead of a conventional dashboard with separate driver and passenger screens, this single panoramic display turns the entire front cabin into an information surface. For a Level 5 autonomous driving concept, that matters because the front seats are no longer only about driving. The display can show navigation, vehicle status, entertainment, or shared information at a glance. It is also a reminder that LCD is not disappearing from cars, especially when size, brightness, cost, and dashboard integration remain important.

Inside the cabin, the 12.6-inch Transparent OLED was placed between the two seats facing each other, acting as a futuristic control panel. Its most interesting quality is not just that it is transparent, but that it keeps the cabin feeling open while still offering touch controls. LG Display says the panel has 40% transparency, and in the demo, it was used for commands such as entertainment selection. This is where the concept car started to feel less like a vehicle and more like a mobile living room, with a visually pleasing transparent interface that can sit inside the cabin without visually blocking the space.

On the doors, LG Display showed a single long 56:9-ratio 27.2-inch Smart Surface P-OLED panel using its Shy Tech OLED concept. This 4480×720 resolution display is meant to blend into interior materials such as wood or carbon. The touch capability on such a curved textured surface was impressively reactive and allowed me to control media and cabin controls directly from the door interior. By removing physical buttons, automakers can create cleaner, more luxurious interiors.

The final and most theatrical part of the demo was the 32.6-inch Slidable P-OLED, which descended from the ceiling when the cabin switched into a movie-theater-like mode. LG Group is famous for its world’s first rollable TV, unveiled at CES 2019, so LG Display doubled down on that with the demo of its slidable car ceiling display, which appeared to roll or retract into the ceiling structure, thanks to P-OLED’s flexibility and thinness.

From the display, passengers can make video calls with multiple people, watch movies, or play games using control commands from the door panels or the central transparent display. The system can show different content for different passengers or combine into a larger viewing experience, making it well suited to an autonomous cabin where occupants are no longer focused on driving, and the car becomes a private lounge on wheels.
