XREAL has launched a new sub-brand called X By XREAL, or xbx, with the a01 as its first product. The new AR glasses are designed as a more accessible entry point into XREAL’s big-screen wearable display ecosystem, with a U.S. launch planned for July at a starting price of $299.

The a01 keeps the familiar idea behind XREAL’s glasses: connect to a device and turn it into a large private screen for movies, games, or mobile entertainment. The product is launching first in China, with the U.S. expected to follow this summer.

The new sub-brand is not meant to replace XREAL’s higher-end One Series or its upcoming Android XR work with Project Aura. Instead, X By XREAL offers the company a lower-cost line for users who prioritize the entertainment experience, without immediately moving to flagship pricing or full spatial computing features.

The main hardware focus is weight, brightness, and wearability. XREAL says the a01 weighs 62 grams and features an ultra-light nylon body, thinner lenses, a redesigned hinge, flexible temples, and three sizes of nose pads. That puts the product closer to everyday glasses than larger headset-style devices, which is useful for people who want to watch videos in bed, play handheld games, or use the glasses while traveling.

The display system uses dual-layer MicroOLED panels and supports HDR10, 1.07 billion colors, and 14 brightness levels. XREAL lists a perceived brightness of 1600 nits, which should improve contrast and visibility across different lighting conditions. The glasses offer a 50-degree field of view, equivalent to a 147-inch screen viewed from four meters away.

Another notable feature is a spatial anti-shake mode. Since the a01 is a 0-DoF wearable display rather than a full spatial computing device, image stability matters when users are sitting on a train, flying, commuting, or moving around. XREAL claims its anti-shake algorithm is designed to reduce movement without making the image look blurred or washed out.

The a01 also leans into personalization. It has a semi-transparent body and interchangeable front frames, so users can change the look of the glasses. XREAL also says tinkerers can 3D print their own front-frame accessories.

At $299, the a01 targets users who want a personal big-screen experience without moving up to XREAL’s more expensive flagship models. It is aimed at entertainment first, especially mobile gaming, streaming, and travel use.
