qalc is the command-line interface for Qalculate!, a powerful multipurpose calculator designed for both everyday arithmetic and advanced mathematical work. It can evaluate a single expression supplied as an argument or operate interactively with history, completion and configurable settings.

The calculator combines flexible expression parsing with numerical and symbolic computation. Expressions can mix numbers, functions, variables, constants, units, matrices, vectors, dates and times. Results can be presented in exact or approximate form.

This is free and open source software.

Key Features
  • Offers interactive and non-interactive operating modes.
  • Provides command and expression history with completion.
  • Supports arithmetic, logical, bitwise and comparison operators.
  • Performs calculations using arbitrary-precision rational and floating-point numbers.
  • Handles complex numbers, infinite values and mixed fractions.
  • Provides exact and approximate results.
  • Supports symbolic simplification and factorisation.
  • Performs differentiation and definite or indefinite integration.
  • Solves equations, systems of equations and inequalities.
  • Includes more than 400 mathematical, statistical, financial and scientific functions.
  • Offers more than 400 units with automatic and explicit conversion.
  • Converts currencies using regularly updated exchange rates.
  • Includes mathematical and physical constants with uncertainty information.
  • Supports uncertainty propagation and interval arithmetic.
  • Works with matrices, vectors and data sets.
  • Handles dates, times, time zones and multiple calendar systems.
  • Supports numerous number bases and Roman numerals.
  • Provides an optional RPN calculation mode.
  • Creates plots through Gnuplot.
  • Allows users to define custom functions, variables and units.
