Polarising tennis star Nick Kyrgios has got under the skin of some fans after questioning the depth of the men's draw at the US Open.

Kyrgios, 28, responded to a tweet from respected journalist Jose Morgado that showed one section was wide open after seventh seed Stefanos Tsitsipas and No. 28 seed Christopher Eubanks were both sent packing from Flushing Meadows in the second round.

On Thursday morning, Kyrgios posted 'Who are some of these guys', with an accompanying laughing emoji.

It didn't take long for tennis fans to call out the Canberra raised star, who has played just one match in 2023 due to a knee injury and has plummeted to be ranked 134 in the world.

'A new wave of current, healthy tennis players,' one tennis fan roared back at Kyrgios' dig online.

Another stated: 'They are all ranked higher than you buddy.'

A third weighed in savagely with: 'They are competitors. Not flakes.'

While Kyrgios is an undoubted drawcard when firing on all cylinders, the 2022 Wimbledon finalist has previously admitted he doesn't love the sport.

Basketball is his true love, and he is a noted supporter of Boston Celtics in the NBA.

In a recent interview Krygios declared he wants to be remembered by fans as 'someone who just did it my way.'

He is also immensely proud of the fact he 'never conformed to rules that society or the tennis world want you to live by.'

He has previously revealed his mental health struggles, where he admitted to abusing drugs and alcohol in his early 20s as a form of escapism from the fulltime ATP circuit.

Finding love away from the court with Sydney based influencer Costeen Hatzi has provided Kyrgios with the life balance he has always craved.

Given he has amassed more than $12million in career earnings - and won a men's double title at the Australian Open in 2022 with good mate Thanasi Kokkinakis - he could retire tomorrow a content athlete.

The question many tennis fans want to know is - will the sporting maverick ever realise his considerable potential - or will he quietly ponder to himself what might have been?

Only Kyrgios knows the answer.
