GoPro has introduced its new Mission 1 Series line of small, light and rugged 8K and 4K Open Gate cinema cameras. Featuring a new 50-megapixel, 1-inch sensor and GoPro’s new, ultraefficient GP3 processor, the Mission 1 Series cameras deliver the resolutions, frame rates, runtimes and thermal performance needed for mission-critical reliability in even demanding environments. The new series comprises three camera models — Mission 1, Mission 1 Pro and Mission 1 Pro ILS, which features an interchangeable Micro Four Thirds lens system compatible with an even broader array of lenses via adapters.

The company is also launching a broad accessory ecosystem and multiple creator‑focused bundles alongside the cameras. GoPro will announce details and pricing for the new products at NAB 2026.

“Our most demanding, pro-minded customers have asked us for years to make this very line of cameras,” says GoPro founder and CEO Nicholas Woodman. “The Mission 1 Series is designed to go to hell and back, and that’s exactly where our customers are going to take them. The footage is going to look amazing.”

At the heart of the Mission 1 Series is the new 50MP, 1‑inch sensor with larger 1.6-micrometer pixels and 3.2-micrometer fused pixels in quad Bayer mode. It is designed to capture more light, improve low‑light performance and provide up to 14 stops of dynamic range at the sensor. The sensor is paired with GoPro’s new GP3 processor, built for higher efficiency and equipped with an AI neural processing unit for advanced video pixel processing and low‑light image handling. Together they enable 50MP RAW photo capture, high‑bit‑rate recording up to 240Mb/sec, 10‑bit color with GP‑Log2, HLG‑HDR and timecode sync for multi‑camera shoots.

Mission 1 Pro and Mission 1 Pro ILS support 16×9 video up to 8K60, 4K240 and 1080p960, along with non-burst 1080p (and 1440p 4×3) at 480fps for 16X slow motion. They also offer 8K30 and 4K120 Open Gate 4×3 capture that uses the full sensor for flexible reframing across different aspect ratios. The base Mission 1 model records 8K30, 4K120 and 1080p240 in 16×9 as well as 4K120 and 1440p240 in 4×3, with 4K120 Open Gate support. The GP3 processor and the higher‑capacity Enduro 2 battery boost runtimes, with the series rated for more than five hours of 1080p30 and more than three hours of 4K30 recording on a single charge under GoPro’s test conditions.

Capture Modes, Audio and Design
The new cameras offer 13 capture modes tuned for specific scenarios using machine learning and scene detection, including a Dive Mode with underwater‑specific color science and stabilization and a Vlog Mode with face‑aware framing and tone mapping. Users can also fully override automation with custom settings. There are four microphones with improved stereo pickup and wind reduction, plus 32‑bit float recording to help avoid clipping and Bluetooth 5.3 audio support for compatible wireless devices. Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro are waterproof to 66 feet (20 meters) without a housing, while Mission 1 Pro ILS is weatherproof. A new lens design offers a 159-degree native field of view, a 14% larger OLED rear display, taller raised buttons for gloved use and a removable lens hood to reduce glare and flare.

Models and Bundles
The Mission 1 Pro is the flagship fixed‑lens model, combining the 50MP 1‑inch sensor and GP3 with the full 8K60/4K240/1080p960 16×9 and 8K30/4K120 Open Gate 4×3 modes. Mission 1 mirrors the flagship’s sensor and processor but tops out at 4K120 Open Gate and 8K30/4K120/1080p240 16×9 capture, targeting creators who do not need the highest frame rates. Mission 1 Pro ILS uses the same sensor and GP3 in a mirrorless‑style body with an interchangeable Micro Four Thirds mount, supporting a wide range of lenses and adapters and in‑camera HyperSmooth stabilization with rectilinear prime lenses. Bundled options include the Mission 1 Pro Grip Edition (with a versatile grip that doubles as a metal cage), the Mission 1 Pro Creator Edition (adding a new Media Mod, Volta 2 Battery Grip and Wireless Mic Complete Kit), and the Mission 1 Pro Ultimate Creator Edition (adding a Fluid Pro AI gimbal, Light Mod 2 and Media Mod for a more complete production setup).

The accessory ecosystem includes:

  • A wireless mic system with 24‑bit/48kHz audio, dynamic noise reduction, small magnetic transmitters and up to 6.5 hours per mic, plus a charging case
  • A new Media Mod with built‑in mic, expanded I/O (three 3.5mm ports, micro‑HDMI) and its own mounting system
  • A point‑and‑shoot grip that can convert into a metal cage
  • A 2150mAh Enduro 2 battery
  • M‑Series ND filters (ND8–ND64) with auto detection
  • A protective housing rated to 196 feet (60 meters) for Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro
  • The Volta 2 powered grip/tripod/remote with 5800mAh battery
  • Light Mod 2
  • A dual battery charger
  • A vertical mount adapter for social‑media‑oriented shooting

All Mission 1 Series cameras integrate with the GoPro Quik app, which offers automatic highlight video creation, editing tools, easy wireless transfer and unlimited cloud backup for users with Premium or Premium+ GoPro subscriptions.

The full accessory suite will roll out starting in May, with on‑shelf timing to be announced as each item becomes available. Mission 1 Pro, Mission 1 Pro Grip Edition and Mission 1 go up for preorder on May 21, with global retail availability starting May 28. Mission 1 Pro ILS, Mission 1 Pro Creator Edition and Mission 1 Pro Ultimate Creator Edition are scheduled to arrive in Q3.
