IRW Executive Editor Joe Stephens, above right, will lead a panel discussion on “I-team 2.0: How to build labs pairing vets and newcomers to fill the void left in shrinking newsrooms” on June 19 at 11:30 a.m. at National Harbor. That’s where the annual conference of Investigative Reporters and Editors will be based, from June 18-21, with more than x-number of participants from around the world.

Stephens will focus on investigative labs, which have increasingly filled gaps left by massive newsroom cuts by pairing experienced muckrakers with students or early-career journalists. But each lab takes a slightly different approach. You can hear top editors compare and contrast styles, and explain how they assign roles, manage egos and win Pulitzers.

Stephens will moderate. Panelists include Chris Davis, deputy editor for the New York Times Local Investigative Reporting Fellowship; Mark Greenblatt, executive editor of the Howard Center for Investigative Journalism at Arizona State University; and Kathryn Hurd, senior reporter for Berkeley Journalism's Investigative Reporting Program.
