Stroll the streets of Paris these days and you can’t miss the signs.

Canadian singing superstar Céline Dion will be taking centre stage in a series of comeback concerts in this French capital and the city is abuzz.

Thousands of fans from around the world are scheduled to travel to Paris in September, October and May to take in the shows, and the hospitality industry is predicting a mega-windfall for hotels, restaurants, attractions, taxis and shops.

Dion’s 16 fall concerts could have a minimum economic impact of between $920 million and $1.6 billion CDN, said Le Monde, France’s largest newspaper. And, that number is on the rise with Dion recently announcing she’s adding another 10 concerts that will occur in May 2027.

“That is enough to make economic stakeholders dance for joy,” said Le Monde, noting Dion’s concerts will generate for the French economy at a minimum the equivalent of one-fifth of the economic impact of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games (excluding infrastructure spending.)

Throughout Paris, billboards and ads are scattered everywhere, announcing the songstress is returning to the stage after battling the disease known as stiff-person syndrome and cancelling a world tour a few years back.

The upcoming concerts are causing “excitement and elation,” the newspaper Le Figaro pronounced recently.

“It’s the most talked about comeback in France since Charles de Gaulle came out of retirement in 1958,” writer Gavin Mortimer wrote recently in The Spectator. “To say the French are excited is an understatement.”

How to get tickets and get to Paris for a Celine Dion concert

Paris and the music world have been humming with news of the concerts ever since Dion announced the comeback to occur at Paris La Defense Arena. The demand for tickets was so high that six more concerts were added almost immediately to the initial 10 concerts.

Nearly 500,000 tickets were quickly sold for these fall shows, as about nine million people scrambled to make purchases when sales opened.

More recently, Dion announced that 10 more concerts would occur in May 2027, “for previously registered fans who were unable to secure tickets for the 2026 shows.”

Because the shows are largely sold out, available tickets are now sitting in the hands of resellers. A spoiler alert here isn’t really required, because as (sadly) expected, prices are astronomical.

A recent search showed the cheapest seats for the fall concerts were reselling for close to $1,000 per ticket on one resale site. StubHub showed a few tickets available here and there at the venue, starting at over $800 each, with two tickets in Row 1 of Section A going for $43,674 each.

The run of Dion concerts is also translating into big business for the tourism industry throughout Paris.

Booking.com experienced close to a 50-per-cent increase in Paris searches. Some hotels near the Paris concert venue have reported a 400-per-cent increase in search traffic.

Marriott Bonvoy, meanwhile, became the official hotel partner for the engagement, offering up a number of concert packages for visitors, while ticket and hotel packages are also available through Dion’s website.

Several other hotels and travel companies have put together travel packages for those going to Paris for one of the shows. The travel provider, 5Continents, for example, was selling a package that included round-trip flights from Montreal, four nights hotel with breakfasts, airport transfers, a hop-on hop-off sightseeing bus pass for two days, concert venue transfers and a concert ticket for $6,275 per person.

“If you want tickets badly enough you can still get them,” self-described super fan Josephine Roberts noted on Facebook. “But you’re going to pay for them – a lot.”

Why is the concert series important to Paris?

Countless businesses are looking forward to the rush of tourists that this limited concert residency will bring.

One consulting and market research group, MKG Consulting, said the economic impact could actually reach close to $2 billion CDN if you add in all the transportation spending by fans planning to attend and the money being spent by Dion’s concert team as well. That estimate is now on the rise, with the additional May concert dates being recently announced.

“This musical rendezvous promises to be one of the must-see events of the musical autumn of 2026 in Paris, bringing French and international fans together for a rare moment of artistic communion,” the tourist office of Paris said. “True to her reputation, Céline Dion promises a spectacular staging and powerful performances of her greatest hits, combining emotion and live energy.”

Concerts have become significant economic drivers for host cities, with recent examples being that of the Taylor Swift Eras tour and BTS launch of a world tour.

Both domestic and international travellers are expected to be in Paris for the concerts, with about one-third of fans expected to arrive from overseas. Those international visitors are expected to stay longer and spend more on everything from hotels and restaurants to shopping and souvenirs.

“When audiences gather for major concerts, related spending patterns – including shopping, nightlife and transport – collectively reinforce Paris’s standing as one of the most dynamic urban tourism ecosystems in Europe,” reported the travel company Travel and Tour World.

“The music-driven influx underscores how destination marketing strategies now rely increasingly on emotional connections and experiential travel.”

Stop and smell the flowers: Jardin des Plantes is marking its 400th anniversary and a new floral display is transforming its 75-hectares of gardens, greenhouses, zoo and galleries. Almost 50,000 flowers and plants greet visitors in spring and summer, followed by late-season blossoms in September and vibrant fall colours, salvia, tropicals and grasses in October.

Toast the town: Sip a glass of champagne and make a toast to Paris at the top of the Eiffel Tower. Buy your special ticket online before you leave home and when you get to the top of the tower, you’ll receive a glass of Brut Blanc from the champagne bar here, 905 feet (275 metres) above ground.

America250: It might seem odd to think about the United States while visiting France, but throughout 2026 the country is honouring its friendship with the U.S., which is marking the 250th anniversary of American independence. Dedicated programs and itineraries are being offered through to Dec. 31 at venues including Musee Carnavalet and the Archives Nationales. One of the largest events related to the celebration will be the first-ever NFL regular-season football game occurring in France, when the New Orleans Saints take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct. 25, 2026.

Behold the decadence: At the nearby Palace of Versailles, an exhibit commemorating the 20th anniversary of Sofia Coppola’s movie Marie Antoinette is taking centre stage, Sept. 22, 2026 to Jan. 24, 2027. Expect award-winning costumes, film accessories, storyboards, scripts, photos, sketches and more. Also at Versailles, a special musical fountains show occurs from now until Nov. 1, 2026.

Take in some jazz: Special performances will occur between Oct. 9-24 this year for the Jazz sur Seine festival. Celebrating its 15th anniversary, the festival is planning close to 200 performances by more than 400 musicians at concert venues and clubs around Paris over several days. One of the highlights is the Discovery Evening on Oct. 13, which will feature 15 free short concerts in one evening.

Make your way to a museum, any museum: Paris is home to between 130 and 160 museums, depending on whether you include neighbouring areas in your count. This means there are countless exhibits occurring in any month of the year. Highlights for this fall include an Andy Warhol exhibit at Musee du Luxembourg; a display honouring the 400th anniversary of the French Navy at Musee national de la Marine; and, a precious metalwork showcase at the Louvre.
