FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Two brush fires in Fort Collins — one in the area of the Riverbend Ponds Natural Area that prompted voluntary evacuation orders in Fort Collins on Thursday — were fully contained Thursday evening.

Officials first posted about the fire in the 1500 block of E. Mulberry Street, the larger of the two, a little before 6 p.m. The fire was knocked down by 7:35 p.m. and no injuries or structure damage had been reported, Poudre Fire officials said.

Two brush fires in Fort Collins contained

The fire burned about 7 acres and crews were staying on scene to monitor hotspots, a Poudre Fire spokesperson said.

Voluntary evacuation orders were in place for residents and businesses south of Highway 14 to Prospect Road and west of Timberline Road to Riverside Avenue, the Larimer County sheriff's department posted. An alert told those in the area to gather essential items and prepare for evacuation.

"There is heavy smoke in the area as the fire is in heavy vegetation," a post from Poudre Fire Authority said just after 6 p.m.

The voluntary evacuation orders were lifted just before 8 p.m., sheriff's department officials said.

Fire officials said they were responding to a second fire at Lee Martinez park a little before 7 p.m. That fire burned just 1 acre and was fully contained later in the evening, a Poudre Fire spokesperson said.
