Alexander Volkanovski insisted he had done enough to beat Islam Makhachev in Perth on Saturday night, accusing the judges of 'taking my massive moment away from me'.

The Russian denied Volkanovski triumph on home soil by winning the blockbuster main event at UFC 284 by a unanimous decision 28-27, 28-27, 29-26. 

The loss was the Australian's first in the UFC after 22 straight wins, but the Australian insisted he felt he won the fight. 

'Just watched the fight, I definitely think I won [rounds] 2,3 and 5,' he tweeted on Monday.

'Surprised I didn't get my hand raised! Let's do the rematch, anywhere, anytime!' 

The 34-year-old doubled down on his comments on Tuesday, during an appearance on Ariel Helwani's YouTube show The MMA hour. 

'After watching it back I’m pretty confident and comfortable saying that I thought I won the second, third and fifth rounds,' he said.

'But it was definitely a close fight and I’m a bit upset I didn’t get my hand raised. [...] We thought we were gonna have a huge moment but the judges somehow saw it in a different way. 

'They took my massive moment away from me, the b******s.'

Volkanosvki stopped short of endorsing allegations his opponent cheated in Perth, but noted Makhachev seemed heavier than him on Sunday.

'I’ve heard he [Makhachev] gets up to like 83 kilograms or close to,' he said. 

'You fill up pretty quick you know on the IV’s and stuff like that. Maybe that’s a little shot at him but you know, you hear whispers.'

His comments came a day after New Zealand UFC star Dan Hooker claimed Makhachev had cheated by using an IV drip to help him rehydrate ahead of his match against Volkanovski.

Using a drip to rehydrate after a weight cut has previously been adopted by some UFC fighters but was banned by the sport's regulators in 2015 in an effort to stomp out the practice.

In a foul-mouthed rant on Twitter, the Kiwi called Makhachev a 'dumb c***' and suggested the UFC lightweight champions had 'hired a nurse' to inject him with fluids.

'Dumb c*** thinks he can fly to Australia hire a nurse to give him an I.V and we won’t find out. Cheating dog,' he posted. 

He then accused the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency of doing 'f**k all' to prevent the Dagestan-born fighter to allegedly circumvent the rules.

There is currently no evidence that Makhachev has committed any wrongdoing or that Hooker's comments are true.
