Hyundai Motor Group is set to launch a mobile healthcare service demonstration using purpose-built vehicles (PBVs) to resolve healthcare accessibility issues in an Indonesian smart city.
Hyundai Motor Group showcased a healthcare vehicle for demonstration, modified from the Kia PV5 Cargo Long model, at the Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) held from July 30 to August 9. The vehicle is designed to enable medical treatment and health checkups even while on the move, equipped with a folding bed for patients, a medical chair, and electrocardiogram testing equipment inside. In particular, it features the V2L function, which can supply the power necessary to operate medical devices regardless of the location.
This demonstration project will be promoted in earnest starting at the end of this year in BSD (Bumi Serpong Damai) City, a smart city in Jakarta. Hyundai Motor Group has partnered with Sinar Mas Land, a local urban development company, and Eka Hospital, a general hospital corporation. BSD City is considered an area with high demand for mobile healthcare services, as it faces structural issues where medical facilities are concentrated in specific zones and access is difficult without a personal vehicle.
Under the cooperative system, Hyundai Motor Group will oversee the overall provision of PV5 vehicles and service operations, while Sinar Mas Land will support the establishment of infrastructure such as residential complexes and community facilities. Eka Hospital plans to provide actual medical services by deploying specialized medical staff and equipment. They will establish a medical model that directly visits densely populated areas, such as residential complexes, shopping malls, and sports centers, to examine the possibility of on-site application.
Through this project, Hyundai Motor Group plans to enhance the medical convenience of local residents while refining the smart city service model. Based on the achievements in Indonesia, the group has also formulated a plan to expand its business scope to other ASEAN countries in the future.
Chung Ho-geun, Vice President and Head of the Future Strategy Division at Hyundai Motor Group, emphasized that Indonesia is a strategic hub for the ASEAN market and expressed the intention to promote the smart city business through collaboration with local partners.
Rina Setiawati, Chief Executive Officer of Eka Hospital Group, evaluated that this collaboration will serve as a catalyst that contributes to the development of the Indonesian automotive industry and healthcare, providing practical benefits to the public.
