Standa Živný's DPhil thesis 'The Complexity and Expressive Power of Valued Constraints', has been awarded the 2011 ACP Doctoral Research Award.

The ACP Doctoral Research Award is given every year by the Association for Constraint Programming to a promising young researcher working in the area of constraint programming and who defended his/her thesis between January and December of the previous two years.

The award will be presented at the 17th International Conference on Principles and Practice of  Constraint Programming (CP 2011), where, as the winning researcher, Standa will present a talk on the topic of his doctoral dissertation.

This thesis is a detailed examination of the expressive power of valued constraints and related complexity questions. It is available to read on the Oxford University Research Archive.

Having completed his DPhil (the Oxford term for a PhD), Standa is now a Junior Research Fellow within the Department.
