2012 Computer Science Industry Seminars announced

Companies presenting include Amazon, Morgan Stanley and Bloomberg

This term the Department of Computer Science will be hosting a series of technical seminars given by our partners from industry. These seminars aim to give undergraduate and graduate students a picture of the ways in which computer science is used to tackle and solve real-life issues.

The seminars are open to all Oxford University students (post postgraduate and undergraduate).  

Week 3

Samsung Challenge Launch - Tues 23rd Oct – 2pm, Lecture Theatre A

Samsung and Steele media will be launching the Student Developer Challenge 2012.

Ensoft – Wed 24th Oct – 1.45pm, Lecture Theatre A

Ensoft will be giving a talk on Computer Science in their business – join them from 1.45pm in the Undergraduate Social area for lunch!

Week 4

Morgan Stanley – Wed 31st Oct – 2pm Lecture Theatre A

Cloud: blessing or curse? Challenges in building a real, large hybrid cloud.  Dr. Evangelos Kotsovinos, Global Head of Cloud Strategy and Architecture at Morgan Stanley.

Week 5

Credit Suisse – Wed 7th Nov – 2pm Lecture Theatre A

Credit Suisse will be giving a talk on Java development at Credit Suisse.

Week 6

Amazon – Wed 14thth Nov – 1pm Lecture Theatre A  *Note: the time for this talk has been updated from that previously advertised*

Amazon Tech Talk: Our talk will be on the Amazon Kindle and exploring the technology and features behind how it works.  More specifically we will be exploring how we devised X-Ray for books on the Kindle Platform. This will be an interactive session.  

The speaker will be Josh Goodspeed (Software Development Managing Director of the Amazon Development Centre in London) He is Oxford Alumni having studied  M.Eng, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science

Week 7

Bloomberg – Wed 21st Nov – 12pm Lecture Theatre A

Bloomberg are visiting to talk about Agile development practices, (Scrum, Kanban and general agile techniques) and how they fit into Bloomberg currently. Pizza and drinks after!
