Oxford is the highest placed UK university in ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2018 for Computer Science & Engineering.

The rankings by ShanghaiRanking, released on 17 July, placed Oxford 13th globally. Indicators used in these rankings include measures of research productivity, research quality, the extent of international collaboration, and academic awards. The subject rankings use third-party data.

The University of Oxford came first in the Time Higher Education (THE)’s Europe Teaching Rankings 2018, which were released on 11 July. This pilot ranking focused on institutions’ teaching and learning environments for students across the University. Half of universities’ overall scores are based on the results of the THE European Student Survey – a student engagement survey of more than 30,000 university students, which includes questions on whether teaching supports critical thinking, whether classes challenge students and whether students have the opportunity to interact with staff.
