Cancer is a complex adaptive system and the interaction of various cancer cell types can be described as an evolutionary game. Such games and their transformations through treatment have been largely taken as a theoretical postulate. Now, the Department of Computer Science’s Artem Kaznatcheev and his colleagues have developed a method for directly measuring these games, and show how the games are transformed by treatment and the presence of non-cancerous cells.
This gives hope for therapies that don't treat just the player (i.e. directly targeting cancer cells) but treat the game (i.e. targeting the interactions between cells).
