The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) is funding a new Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Autonomous Intelligent Machines and Systems. This is one of three new CDTs funded at the Department of Computer Science, in order to ‘develop the skills needed for UK prosperity’.

The new centre for doctoral training (CDT) reflects a national requirement to increase the number of people with advanced skills in machine learning. AIMS incorporates not only machine learning, but also robotics and vision, cyber-physical systems, verification and control. Within the CDT there will be Special Interest Groups (SIGs) on sustainable urban development, extreme and challenging environments, and smart health.

Lead Principal Investigator (PI) of the new CDT Niki Trigoni says, ‘Our continued vision is to train cohorts with both theoretical, practical and systems skills in autonomous systems (comprising AI, machine learning, robotics, verification and sensor systems) and a deep understanding of the cross disciplinary requirements of these domains.’
