Samsung's newest smartphone will feature AI capabilities developed by Professors Boris Motik, Bernardo Cuenca Grau, Ian Horrocks, and Oxford Semantic Technologies 

Three professors from the department’s Data, Knowledge and Action theme have been working with Oxford Semantic Technologies to develop the technology behind the Personal Data Engine, which enables devices to integrate and understand information contextually, providing more insightful, secure, and personalised responses within smartphones and other devices. 

The Personal Data Engine is underpinned by knowledge graph technology, which provides a powerful way to combine complex data with background information, similar to the ways humans use memory and reasoning. 

Until recently, smartphone services and applications have operated independently of one another, limiting their ability to provide insightful responses. The Personal Data Engine allows us to overcome this limitation by understanding a user’s experience along with the surrounding context and storing it in the user’s personal knowledge graph.
