If a four-time MVP A’ja Wilson said they want you by her side every game, you must be doing something right.

Jackie Young really made Wilson look smart Monday night, compiling 28 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for her third career triple-double. The result was a 109-87 Las Vegas Aces victory over Atlanta on Monday night, snapping the Dream’s five-game winning streak.

Young poured in 19 first-half points while shooting 78% from the field, including three 3-pointers, helping the Aces build a 55-38 halftime lead.

“For her to be able to put up a triple-double is special,” Wilson said, “but it comes as no surprise; this is what we see every single practice.”

Wilson added 23 points, six rebounds and three blocks while continuing her climb up the WNBA record books. The four-time MVP passed Lauren Jackson for sixth on the league’s all-time blocks list with 589 career blocks and moved past Katie Smith into 12th on the WNBA’s all-time scoring list.

The Aces improved to 13-2 against the Dream under coach Becky Hammon with a 29-18 all-time record in the series.

The victory also reinforced Las Vegas’ status as one of the league’s top road teams. Prior to Monday the Aces led the WNBA in road field-goal percentage (.498), field goals made (34.5) and assists (23.3) per game away from Michelob Ultra Arena.

“I want that Jackie every single night,” Wilson said. “This is what she does, this is who Jackie is. She is one of the best two-way guards.”

The turning point came in the second quarter when Las Vegas answered Atlanta’s 12-2 run to close the opening quarter with a 15-2 surge of its own. The Aces carried that momentum into halftime, outscoring the Dream 33-14 in the second quarter to seize complete control.

Las Vegas also took control defensively. Despite facing the league’s top team in offensive rebounds and points in the paint, the Aces limited the Dream’s second-chance opportunities after building a game-high 26-point lead.

The Aces scored 62 points in the paint while committing three turnovers after coughing the ball up six times in the opening five minutes.

Las Vegas also controlled the perimeter, holding the Dream to 16% shooting from 3-point range in the first half (3 of 19). The Aces, meanwhile, shot 53% from deep, knocking down six 3-pointers before halftime.

“I think (the offense) started in our defensive end because we started to string stops together,” Wilson said. “When we are able to play our defense, our offense is a lot smoother, and it becomes a pick your poison kind of thing.”

Forward Angel Reese led the Dream with 23 points and 16 rebounds while being one of only two Atlanta players to score in double figures.

Reese also grabbed six offensive rebounds, matching the rest of the Dream roster combined despite Atlanta entering the night leading the WNBA in offensive rebounding.

“We really cleaned (the turnovers) up, Hammon said. “I thought we fouled them a bit too much, so we felt if we cleaned up the turnover and cleaned up the fouls we would give ourselves a chance.”

The Aces continue their season-long five-game road trip Thursday, Aug. 6, against the Indiana Fever at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Las Vegas will look for its first victory of the season series after dropping both meetings with Indiana before the All-Star break. The Fever enter the matchup at 19-11, including an 11-5 record at home.
